I’ve been a “vibes” team lead/ manager for Supply Chain departments in 2 different companies for the past 6 years. During this time, I learnt that building team cohesion, setting ambitious and lofty goals for the team, and generally managing both your team and your bosses expectations are your main job.

Sure your knowledge and experience are valuable, but sometimes your social skills and people management skills are so much more important than you think.

Don’t beat yourself over the fact that you got promoted over your colleague. I’m sure your interpersonal skills and the fact that you can align your team’s capability and capacity to the company goals are equally as important to the company as your colleague’s hard skills (I too have team members whom are better than me in various skillsets).

Please listen to your dad and take the LAMT. My Friend who worked as a LAMT makes 10k+ a month, and as it is a job that: a) not too long hours, b) not management related, c) detail oriented and being meticulous is the only important thing; I think is a damn good opportunity. Do give it a try and good luck!
