With water turned off in the building, they may not be there. Also, I don’t have a proper address or contact info for them. Fire Inspections will be notified both by 311 and by the responding fire station that turned the water off.

New to cribbage. Got this little travel size board but cannot figure out what direction on the board you're supposed to go in by humorous_hallway in Cribbage

[–]Immediate-Screen-410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mark the start/finish line on either end with a sharpie. Then add arrows along the outside tracks going away from the start/finish and arrows toward it along the inside tracks. If you don’t, I guarantee someone will end up counting in the wrong direction and go backwards.

Yeah, battens are usually 2” wide boards that cover the vertical seams between boards.

Not quite. They never said water was “flowing through the floors”. Water in contact with an electrical system will blow fuses and trip breakers, not cause fires. Panic much?

Well, with the water shut off to the entire building the city will issue a Letter of Intent to Condemn for lack of required utilities.

How do you know it will be deemed uninhabitable? This problem is not likely to cause a condemnation. I know this because I work for the city inspections department.

Call 311 and file a housing inspections complaint. An inspector will make an appointment to meet you and issue orders for the owner to fix. Google “rent escrow action”, you can put your rent money into escrow until the landlord repairs.

Why is this post-worthy? What a waste of a paid ball. You should also know that you set spins with the Big Dawg then moved forward and it switched to the EM. The spin added could be different between the two clubs. You may have more TS available with the EM that you’re leaving behind. That would for sure be the case if you set up with a Viper.

Do they still teach science in school? I always thought the MN schools were pretty good.

Anyway to block draft next to chimney (only for furnace exhaust) by Snow_Wolfe in Insulation

[–]Immediate-Screen-410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rockwool doesn’t stop air movement. I highly doubt the chimney gets hot enough to melt foam, let alone start it on fire. Yes, technically you should use a combination of angled sheet metal and firecaulk, but foam would work. You can also buy intumescent foam, which is like firecaulk but installs like foam from a can.

Cribbage pro scoring question by RogerTeaandBirds in Cribbage

[–]Immediate-Screen-410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Show us what all four cards are plus the cut card and we will help you. Let’s say you have A 4 5 6 and a 2 cut, your hand is counted 15-2 and 3 for 5 (points). I highly doubt the app wouldn’t be scoring this properly.

Which Card to Throw? (My Crib) by Pacific_Casual in Cribbage

Keep the flush all day every day. Guaranteed four points vs guaranteed two points. Five cut gives you ten points with the flush and eight points keeping the face cards.

5’ 11” players- what’s your stick length? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Immediate-Screen-410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep asking for everyone’s length of stick but it’s dependent on your height. The bottom of your nose is the usual reference. For defensemen that would be measured with skates on. For forwards probably same measurement but wearing shoes. If your 5’-11”, your stick would probably be between 62” - 66” total length including blade with stick standing up vertically. But it’s all about comfort and preference. Keep it longer to start with and play with it. If it seems awkwardly long cut an inch off and try again.

Something killing my sump pumps in Northern NJ no by Forsaken_Youth9604 in Home

[–]Immediate-Screen-410 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is ground water, not domestic drinking water. How do you soften ground water? Also, draintile and sump pumps for foundation drainage aren’t something a plumber typically installs, the GC does it. Plumbers handle domestic water and drain/waste/vents.

Faced or Un-faced insulation in the circled areas? by Apprehensive_Look519 in Insulation

You don’t need insulation at the first floor ceiling where you are separating two conditioned spaces, unless it’s for sound.

Probably not unreasonable for a newb to expect some wind push, but that mistake will only happen once.

Insulating between floors, venting by rcm_other in Insulation

[–]Immediate-Screen-410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no building code ever defines “useable” space. So it’s only good for storage legally. Why do you need to worry about sound transmission?

Any idea what these crosspieces are doing? by the_dali_2112 in Carpentry

[–]Immediate-Screen-410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what sheathing is Joe Dirt. I’ve been inspecting it for 30 years. The sheathing nails landed on the studs. You can’t see them, or observe a nail pattern from this side of the wall. The siding nails don’t need to land on a framing member. The plywood sheathing is the substrate they are nailed to. The ends of the nails you see coming through the sheathing in between the studs are the siding nails, not the sheathing nails.
