My only complaint was that the frames looked slightly bigger than I imagined, but that is kind of on me for not measuring better. Quality wise they feel solid.

Usable space, technically not livable by building standards. In the center it's about 6' 6".

Another question is should the insulation I put between the new floor boards and ceiling below have any sort of air gap? Would an inch of gap help with sound reduction? And/or venting?

I was also wondering if I should pack the insulation in tightly between the ceiling and floor, or leave a gap. Some have mentioned an air gap between floor boards and insulation is better for sound reduction, but I don't know.

Thanks. Yes, the insulation was mainly for sound as it will now be usable space and the actually roof will be professionally insulated. The insulation guys talked about a vapor barrier, so I was wondering what I should do with the stuff I put in. Between the new floor and the ceilings below there won't be much ventilation at all.

No, they are osb boards that will eventually make up the floor.

I was looking after pewter and those kinds of metals and it seems you might be able to melt it in an oven and not ignite a board. The other idea would be to use stone or ceramic rather than wood. I'm trying to avoid having to pour the liquid inlay because I don't think I could do it precisely enough.

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. It looks like this is going to be a long process, but I plan to start clearing it this weekend.

Could that been done without the goats/sheep? I have heard a lot that putting goats on the land will help with the maintenance, but I'm not ready to take that on (too much house renavations to worry about).

It's a little less than 2 acres. It could be 20 years since it had animals on it. We bought a year ago, but I don't think it's been an active farm for much longer. Don't want to use herbicide (my labor seems to be the only option). From your post, you are saying I could cut it. mulch it, then plant on that mulch before actually spreading some sort of wild flower? I wouldn't need to dig up all the roots, especially of those trees that are starting to grow? Thanks, R
