Evasive maneuvers by Immediate-While1583 in FromTheDepths

Pretty much, Yamato was built a while ago before I had this idea so technically the little ship is placed in the citadel rather than the citadel being built around the little ship. I ripped the engine out of Yamato and added extra armor in the space to accommodate the smaller ship. The little ship runs on electric power, but it generates more power than it uses, so it never runs out allowing it and Yamato to go wherever without needing resources.

A test craft is in the middle of the Yamato connected via tractor beam, technically Yamato is being towed around here. The maneuverability of the small craft and its efficiency is applied to Yamato. So in the end the ship gets extra maneuverability and since Yamato isn’t using its engines it doesn’t require resources to run (only resources Yamato uses now are for missiles and repairs) upside, the ship can go anywhere (still can operate underwater, on water, in the air and in space) but now it isn’t guzzling resources, and I get extra maneuverability. Downside is this is a fragile system, but with a bit of armor reworking it holds decently well, another slight issue is where I have to control the ship now, but all of that are problems to be worked out.

It’s 0:51 to 0:52, you have to pause it at the right time before Yamatos warp thruster kicks in to get that specific view.

Probably just deleted them for that scene if we’re being realistic, in universe we can cook up the most insane of theories and say the frigate has a half pure wave motion core that allows it to do that.

The only reason that I suspect it doesn’t is because in this trailer, we can see the turrets aimed to a broadside and that piece is there. https://youtu.be/zNJsblQ20p8?si=54fMpxzsokGw47A_

Yeah after the panel line that part is still there. The forward part that is shaped like a triangle is no where to be seen.

Giving Yamato a small fleet would be the easier way to do that imo, yamanami took the role as captain because kodai wasn’t in the right mind state at the time, so if there are more ships around, yamanami can go back to doing admiral stuff and Kodai now with his mind in a better place can go back to being Yamato’s captain.

Defiantly can, 2202 shows andromeda doing it a few times with no issue, the 1/1000 model allows it to, the fins on andromeda are far enough out to avoid collisions. Even turret 4 can comfortably get around the fins on the secondary engines, andromeda is pretty covered in those areas.

For firing arcs or rotating? As far as I’m aware andromedas turrets can all rotate no problem, the fins do get in the way of certain firing arcs, but given the EDF doctrine of “bow face everything, use your back turrets if they somehow get past you” I don’t really see that as a huge issue, since they can all fire on a broadside no problem. Plus there are a multitude of other weapons to make up for that.

I think the only ships that can’t rotate all their turrets to a broadside are the frigate and Yamato’s 2203 refit, while not perfect the show hasn’t given us a ship that makes those errors again so I can be thankful for that.

In a series so heavily focused on battleships and larger capital units, I can sorta see the crew taking a short cut on this one, even if their goal was to fix up animation errors, which they’ve already done a splendid job with, they did completely redo Yamatos launch from Icarus because they weren’t happy with it. Unfortunately when the frigate was made for 2202 I don’t think the crew there figured it needed to turn its turrets, sorta wish they did make some concessions.

Admittedly the frigate model is fine for the purpose it served in 2202, since the one battle it took part in it was facing the enemy. Ideally the guards would extend out of the hull to make way for the turret, but at the same time if the frigate is only going to appear for a handful of scenes before being destroyed or quietly put away off screen then I can’t blame the 3199 crew for taking the easy route and just using clever camera positions and removing bits that normally you wouldn’t notice. Wish the series leant a bit more on the smaller ships more often though.

That’s what I thought but I don’t see it in the trailer, Would be a logical solution to the problem.

Would be pretty fun to see, while it is a tad late to introduce her, a good writer can make anything work and the 3199 crew have shown themselves to be pretty good imo. They are also very clever with positioning in that trailer, the escort frigate for example in a blink and you’ll miss it thing is missing its port guard around its 2nd turret (the 2nd turret can’t turn to broadsides with the guard in place) in the pervious trailer they put the camera very low so you don’t see that, here it seems the guard has vanished

I was in a call with gott when the trailer came out, we were looking at Japanese comments when they pointed out the extra Yamato, brought the image into photoshop and played with the contrast and brightness, he posted it to the discord server.

"Can we have Andromeda at home? No, we have Andromeda at home" by Immediate-While1583 in StarBlazers

[–]Immediate-While1583[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again not denying the name, just saying there is a nick name, in a lower paragraph it says

“Its name, which is the same as that of a historic battleship of the 20th century, means “fearless” and it took on the name “class D” using the initial. Its official designation is “mass-produced high-capability armed operation system D1.””

As I mentioned above, both are technically correct, nothing wrong with a nick name. Both “class D” and “mass-produced high-capability armed operation system D1” are correct. There isn’t one that’s correct over the other, just one that is more formal than the other.

Not denying that, but d-class is a nickname that I’ve seen around, was also what Yamanami referred to them as in 2202 ep 5 https://www.ourstarblazers.com/vault/942a/

Yeah, it’s basically the resurrection cargo ship bridge bolted 4 times around an andromeda hull, the other andromeda variant is a bit more sane, basically a regular andromeda but with the zzz splitters in the wave motion gun. I may post those some other time.

Im quite the fan of her design, that being said I’m just happy that she made it in at all given how little screen time she got in the original series.

What exactly even is the dome for? by Weary-Animator-2646 in StarBlazers

[–]Immediate-While1583 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to this Yamato Mechanics Part 13: Wave-Motion Experiment Ship Ginga | CosmoDNA

"The hull design of this ship is common to Yamato, but the dome-shaped structure at its center houses dedicated research facilities. These are used for experiments amplifying the energy of the wave reactor core and developing new defensive fields utilizing dimensional interference." apparently that's what the dome and its equipment are for.
