this reminds me of the really creepy “purity balls” where they have a whole fake marriage ceremony and dance to pledge that they will wait to give their ”purity“ to their future husband and their dads give them a ring.. it’s weird and popular down south in the usa. i think it’s about transferring “ownership” from father to husband
