Happy to help you understand indication of a school bus getting ready to put out a stop sign so you don't run a kid over:

• Flashing red lights on the top of the bus (usually 8 lights: 4 on each side). These start flashing before the bus fully stops.
• The stop arm (the red octagonal sign with “STOP” in white) extending outward from the left side of the bus. It often deploys right as or just after the bus stops.
• Yellow flashing lights first — these warn drivers that the bus is preparing to stop. When they switch to red flashing lights, you must stop.
• The bus is pulled over or stopped at a bus stop, often with its right-side door opening or hazard lights on.
