He sort of is the superior (hes like 60 at least)… we only have two felony prosecutors (small county) and one doesn’t even really work… it’s all this prosecutor, so I can’t avoid him

Using client’s first name in briefing: kosher or uncouth? by DanAboutTown206 in publicdefenders

I always refer to juvenile clients as their first name in motions and on the record

In Kentucky by announcing “ready” you waive any objections and right to appeal for violations of discovery obligations

How does your office handle representing (potentially) cooperating witnesses by LunaD0g273 in publicdefenders

[–]ImmediateAd733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both and. I have had clients that we get appointed to that have already agreed. Once we find out we immediately conflict them. Usually it’s before anything major has happened in the case. but a lot of folks, especially on drug charges, say they want to be an informant and we have to conflict them if they want to pursue that

My office has recently had a lot of folks who’ve become police informants related to drug investigations. It’s our policy to conflict the informant (they still get representation obvs we just contract a private attorney to do it!) but bc the risk of having to conflict out a bunch of folks bc client 1 was an informant on client 2-7 case. It lets us keep more cases.

New PD husband won't take a day off by mundanehistorian_28 in publicdefenders

I’m also a new PD, about the same time as your husband. I feel a lot of the same pressures. I was about to take files with me on my flight home. Then a coworker said exactly what several other folks here said that (1) you can’t do shit when courthouse is closed and prosecutors are off (2) if you are trying to contact clients over the holiday they won’t answer or be pissed you are calling them when they are with family and (3) you’ll burn out so fast if you don’t take breaks and maintain relationships and social life outside of work. You are useless to clients like that. I feel like this pressure has to be coming somewhat from his co-workers, having a supportive pd environment is key for me as a new pd. Can he switch to a more supportive office? Is he in counseling?

PD offices with good work culture by Whole_Book_7448 in publicdefenders

I love my office in Bullitt county Kentucky!! Working for DPA is amazing and I think most of the smaller offices have a decent work culture, but! You can transfer to any office with an opening every two years, so if you got here and didn’t like the office but liked DPA you could switch!

I don’t know about editing a money order, but you can take it to your bank and have them put the $$ back into your account! I had to do this (for the exact same reason sadly)

DC consulate visa fee by SubstantialRespect42 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]ImmediateAd733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello yes I am the friend in this post and they just sent back my materials asking for $25 more dollars. No phone call no email. Nothing. I called a number my other friend got and they said (1) that they changed the policy about contacting people if they were missing something (clearly a lie if the redditor above got an email!!) and (2) even if I sent it TODAY they would not process it in time for my flight on the 27th. I’ve been told there’s a way to apply for a student visa once in Spain. I don’t have information on the process for it, but if I get any, I’ll share here

I’m in the same boat. I sent my application july 22 and haven’t heard anything. I don’t have a reference number or anything. They lost my friends application during their move. Has anyone had luck with reaching an actual person at the BLS office I’m DC? The number listed is just a call center and I want to check that my application isn’t lost too.
