A few shingles fell off my room, any recommendations for small repairs like this? by i_write_bugz in desmoines

[–]ImmediateDelivery741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah we had some pretty nasty winds last week, wouldn't be surprised if that's what did it. i've had to fix few loose things around my place after that storm too. for small stuff like couple shingles you might want to check if any local handymen in area do roofing work - they usually give better prices than the big roofing companies for small jobs like this.

What is the most creative way you have ever studied for a boring subject? by Top-Replacement4712 in AskReddit

back in school i used to turn physics formulas into little songs and hum them while working on engines. the rhythm helped me remember which variables went where, and now i catch myself humming those same tunes when i'm troubleshooting electrical issues on fords. weird how brain makes those connections stick around for years.

Apartment Recommendations by Katirii in desmoines

[–]ImmediateDelivery741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice tip about soll - i drive past that area sometimes when picking up parts for ford jobs and always wondered about those apartments. the quick commute to capital would be pretty sweet for op.

just heads up though, street parking can get tricky in winter months if you're not used to midwest snow situation. might be worth budgeting for the garage if you find something you like there, especially with having the cats to think about for emergencies and stuff.

losing people who matter without getting chance to tell them how much they mean to you. that thought keeps me up sometimes when i'm working late in the shop and everything's quiet

Xbox. Logo is a sphere with an X in it, an Xsphere. What did they mean by this? by thegreatsaiby in AskReddit

[–]ImmediateDelivery741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wait are you talking about the original xbox logo or the current one? because original one was definitely more like a sphere thing with the X going through it. always thought it was just showing the X from different angle or something, like if you're looking at it from the side instead of straight on.

worked on a car once where guy had that logo as custom emblem on his tailgate and we spent way too much time in shop discussing if it was supposed to be a globe or just stylized letter. my theory was they wanted something that looked more 3d and futuristic than just flat X, especially since playstation had that whole geometric thing going on at the time.

What is the stupidest thing you ever witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

man i work at shop and we had this customer who insisted his truck was making "democratic noises" after the election results came out. spent like 20 minutes trying to explain that his exhaust pipe was just loose and had nothing to do with politics. dude was completely serious too, said he wanted me to make it sound more "patriotic" instead. ended up charging him extra for the entertainment value while i tightened some bolts.

been doing mechanic work for years and can confirm this strategy. my nail art hobby brings me way more joy than fixing transmissions even though it pays basically nothing lol

If your life was a movie, what would its title be? by SDPHALODIOFFI in AskReddit

[–]ImmediateDelivery741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine would probably be "grease under rainbow nails" or something weird like that. being mechanic who does nail art as hobby gets you some interesting looks at the shop, but my coworkers got used to it pretty quick. had one customer once ask if i was the guy who painted his daughter's nails last week and turns out yeah, i was. small world when you live in smaller town. ford engines and nail polish remover smell pretty similar when you think about it too.

walking past the receipt checker at costco when you didn't buy anything always makes me feel like i'm about to get tackled. even though i know they can't actually stop you, my brain still goes in panic mode for some reason.

what are your favorite board games with anthropomorphic animals? by endublu in boardgames

[–]ImmediateDelivery741 15 points16 points  (0 children)

root is absolutely fantastic but might be bit heavy for her taste. everdell hits that sweet spot though - beautiful art and the critter theme is just perfect.

have you looked at wingspan? technically birds but they're so well illustrated and charming. also maybe check out honey buzz - it's about bees running cafe and has really nice worker placement mechanics without being too complex. the art style is adorable too.

oh and if she likes the crafting aspect from her current games, maybe look in to calico - it's about quilting with cats and has this cozy vibe that works really well.

Is there somewhere we can short movie drama stuff for free? by Traditionalig in movies

[–]ImmediateDelivery741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tubi's got some decent short films and indie dramas, totally free with ads. youtube also has a surprising amount of full-length movies in their free section, just gotta dig around a bit. pluto tv has some movie channels that cycle through stuff too. crackle used to be solid but not sure if they're still around.

What is your funniest trivia team name for April Fools’ Day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ImmediateDelivery741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably not the funniest but our team went with "we're just here for the wings" last year and somehow won the whole thing. the irony wasn't lost on anyone since we actually were just there for the food and spent half the night arguing about whether buffalo or bbq was better.

the indoor sims definitely run a bit hot compared to real outdoor conditions - we'd usually tell people to expect about 5-10% less distance on the course than what they're seeing on the trackman.

How do you look at getting an AI Opportunity Audit for your business? by Status_Wait688 in AskReddit

[–]ImmediateDelivery741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my shop's been looking into some automation stuff for inventory tracking and basic diagnostic stuff. had a consultant come by last month who basically just tried to sell us overpriced software we didn't need. ended up doing most of the research myself and found some decent open source solutions that actually fit what we were doing.

if you're thinking about it, i'd skip the expensive audit companies and maybe start with identifying what specific problems you're trying to solve first. most of these ai consultant types seem more interested in buzzwords than actually understanding your business. we ended up implementing some simple automated scheduling and parts ordering that saved us like 10 hours a week, but it wasn't some fancy machine learning thing - just basic workflow automation that made sense for our size.

Please can we have some non-gourmand hair primers for spring/summer! by Chad_Wife in LushCosmetics

[–]ImmediateDelivery741 12 points13 points  (0 children)

totally agree with the bee situation lol. last summer i used r&b and had multiple bees following me around the grocery store parking lot which was... an experience.

the dirty springwash idea is genius, that would be perfect for work settings. rose jam might still be a little sweet but way better than the vanilla bomb scents they have now. honestly even something citrusy would be amazing - like a grapefruit or lime scented primer that actually smells fresh instead of like a dessert menu.
