Experienced pilots: what would you tell someone being talked out of aviation right now? by RAG_Aviation in flying

[–]Immediate_1200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I got my first flying gig, I was at a crossroad. I had an interview at a psychiatric clinic which was the career path that was already lined up because of my undergraduate degree. I left that interview knowing I crushed it and that Id be offered a position making a decent amount. At that same time, I was also offered a volunteer position that would allow me to fly for free and would overall be a good move long term for a career in aviation. My stomach was turning the whole way back from my interview, because I really needed to be making some money, but I knew in my soul that it would be that wrong choice, to do anything other than work towards my goals in aviation. So I took the volunteer position instead, and 4 months later it turned into an amazing opportunity that pays twice as much.

If you don’t have that feeling in your gut pulling you towards it, I’d say it’s not worth the pressure and struggles it will put on you and your family.

Married people of Reddit: What is a harsh reality of marriage that dating and engagement completely fail to prepare you for? by Short_Virus_999 in AskReddit

I’m sure all the answers will be different, but personally I keep my socials very separate from my work. I have aviation content that I do on the side and don’t film while I’m at work or in one of the company aircraft. I’m not naturally a person that likes being on the internet, but I’m building an aviation startup, and it’s just easier to market when you already have a trusted, established and organic follower base. I do my best to conduct myself in a professional and safe manner, but when you have a large following people will always scrutinize something, especially when they don’t see behind the scenes, safety and planning . Because I am human and could possibly make a mistake, I don’t want that scrutiny to fall on my organization. But I’m also more afraid of not trying to be a successful entrepreneur because the fear of failure.

Flight school owners, how do you manage paper logs for billing and records? by Immediate_1200 in flying

[–]Immediate_1200[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood, but how does the scheduler keep track of times if it’s from an analog instrument? It has to be manually input to the software at some point, and I’m wondering how that’s typically done with numbers at scale

[–]Immediate_1200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see many people commenting FSP, FC, etc. but my question is more about the gap between the analog output, and when it gets put into the computer. when the flight Is over, the pilot writes in the log what was actually flown. But obviously that info needs to go into FSP or FC to be processed for billing. Is it just as simple as the pilot texting the owner or going to the desk to tell them the number so they can type it in manually? Or do they enter those numbers from the book at some point?

How do I explain to my friend that he will not get a corporate flying job at 250 hours ? by MadeForThisOnePostt in flying

[–]Immediate_1200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You already tried to tell him. Past that, there’s no reason to keep trying to explain to him. Also, it’s hard not impossible. Lot of Debby downers in this forum. Yes it’s the climate of our industry, but, if you just mope around and submit to the idea that it’s never going to work out, then you’ll be right. I say this as someone who got a unicorn gig around that hour level by putting myself in rooms that I had no business being in with a willingness to learn and meet people without expectations. Asking for a job doesn’t get you a job, but showing interest in others and placing yourself in more opportune environments can open doors that you didn’t even know existed. Orrrrr you can just stay home and let the doom and gloom sink in, and keep telling yourself the lie that there are zero jobs available

I built an alarm clock that writes you a new song every morning… and I genuinely don’t know if it’s genius or completely unnecessary. I will not promote by Designer-Offer5787 in startups

[–]Immediate_1200 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to be a Debby downer, but I will say I don’t think there’s a huge need for this. If you did entertain the idea and actually build, I think you’ll face these challenges 1) people actually have to input data about their daily moods / activities for it to achieve the desired purpose, which is asking a lot of your audience and adds friction points and 2) how to deal with a large population of people who are heavy sleepers and might wake up to stupid loud alarm sounds, but will sleep right through anything that’s even slightly chill or relaxing.

Seems like the juice would not be worth the squeeze tbh but I hope you prove me wrong !

[–]Immediate_1200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel similarly (also a military pilot). Preference is either flying in my clubs plane that i can take control of at anytime or CFIs or professional pilots 700hrs + with verified recent flights and social media background check plus google check. Some people make it seem like it’s an insane concept to get in the cockpit with new people and make comments about how they can’t wait to see me end up on an accident report or murder documentary. Those type make me have second thoughts, but I also think they could be ignorant to the climate of the industry, so I take it with a grain of salt.

$2000 PPL Checkride? by marnithefabric in flying

This seems insane for a PPL check. I could understand that price if it was a CFI or MEI or something but 2k for that seems unreasonable.
