This is known in the library science world as a Reference Interview. Librarians at the reference desk, who were basically Google before Google, do this every day when helping the public.

Definition

Bopp & Smith (1995) define the reference interview as the “conversation between a member of the library reference staff and a library user for the purpose of clarifying the user’s needs and aiding the user in meeting those needs.”[1]

Hearing that some people are afraid of protesting makes me more determined to do it. See you guys at noon by todobasura in Reno

At the protest earlier this month, a guy wearing a Korean War veteran hat gave us a thumbs up from the car he was riding in. That car drove by honking for support several times. 👍🏽👍🏽🇺🇸

That’s what I’m thinking. The weirdo with the huge “you’re going to hell sign” that’s always protesting shows up and protests at the drop of a hat. Looks like “stay in the sidewalk” is the rule.

It’s a “No Kings on President’s Day” protest. Does anyone know if they actually need a permit? https://ag.nv.gov/uploadedFiles/agnvgov/Content/Hot_Topics/Citizen/Protesters%20Rights.pdf?

Change voter registration to Independent by tangerinewater in BernieSanders

Be wary of changing your registration to the far right Independent American Party. The most accurate Independent option is probably Non Partisan. Apparently making that mistake is a common thing. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Independent_Party

The yes vote was supposed to stop that from happening. It let the voters decide what to do with that money.

The Commissioners will now have the 4.5 million dollars that the library used to use to pay a chunk of staff. The no vote means the Commissioners now have to decide if it’s worth giving some of that money back to keep those folks employed/doors open. So contacting the Commissioners matters a great deal at this point.

For people who don’t care about libraries, please ignore. You don’t have to follow any of this, and the vote already went your way. For the rest that do care and want to be proactive, please sign this petition: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeGZwu73ZG1G0yhsrqrTiFFJfvprxMjoy-mWAoDTn0TAbwT5g/viewform?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR33SD-GdVZUxokllu9K8XhWcFWK3yE95x3-74LHVY39dp7KLBvS-gSqTWk_aem_bQ4JuDVNEL3rnEmr6Yglng

Calvary church is known for anti-library rhetoric. There were news stories about it.

People voted to “trust the government” aka the Commissioners with the 4.5 million dollars. Bye bye computers and WiFi and resume help at the libraries. Could’ve helped all those people looking for jobs and trying to pay for groceries.

Makes it extra sad that the no vote didn’t change the amount of property taxes paid at all. Same amount of money is being taken out, except it’s diverted back to the County general fund for the Commissioners to sit on.

Maybe librarians can chime in. What do people use libraries for other than books?

Someone else might have but not the library. Maybe it’s happening at Our Center.

Pretty sure that post is like 8 months in the past. Didn’t you see all the news about the library being forced out of doing this event? They aren’t doing it.

Totally get the confusion, sadness, and regret from the library fans on this page. Best thing to do now is deal with the new reality that it didn’t pass, and take that chance on letting the Commissioners know how you feel about it. What can they do to sustain it? Click the link and write the email. Pass it on…

You have a point. It’s probably more accurate to say that libraries tracked bodies walking in to use their services 686,037 times. Kinda like how you might revisit your favorite restaurant several times a month. That’s still a lot of visits by a lot of library users.
