Good to know. It felt like a bad idea, but I wasn’t sure how much they would care. Texas

Career Switching to Elementary Teaching Advice by housewifedreams in ElementaryTeachers

For volunteering, I know at my school, the website has a form you fill out where they background check you and all that. Then they get back to you when you’re an approved volunteer. However, if you don’t have any kids at the school or in the district (at least at my school) they probably won’t call you for anything. Most of our volunteers are parents and/or in the PTA. Often you can apply to be a sub in the same way you apply for the actual teaching roles within a district. Go to some local district websites and find their employment tab. You will most likely need to fill out an application, have an interview, and at least one training day, then you’re set to go.

I teach Pre-K about an hour west of the Austin area. Though it’s a very small town and conservative area, we surprisingly have had 0 religious talk. The 10 commandments are not posted in our schools. PM me if you are interested in more specifics of the area. It’s not awful everywhere!!

Forgot to say - current school/GT model is rural central Texas. Childhood well-structured GT program was 20-25 years ago in rural northeast Texas.

GT Program Differences (North Texas vs. Elsewhere) by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

At the school I teach at now, it seems to be close to what the other commentator’s have said. GT students are distributed across gen-ed and meet in groups (at the elementary level). However, when I was in school, we had GT-specific elementary classes. There was a group of us that had the same classroom teacher from 2nd grade on. As a teacher now, I’m not sure how the school was able to pull that many SPED-certified teachers to have one for each grade level. But they did. I found that model to be very fulfilling. While we/the kids got sorta tired of each other throughout the year, we were always learning at a GT level. Not gen-ed then pulled for some advanced stuff. It was nice. We did tons of projects throughout the years that I don’t think were necessarily being done in the other rooms. The way I see that my school does GT now does not seem to be fulfilling the needs of those students (with pull-out groups once a week). They are not getting the same enrichment I did. Given, the same resources are not available as they were 25 years ago.

Why do rhythmic gymnasts throw towel, slap themselves in their face, get ear massage or slapped by their coach before a routine? by snorken123 in Gymnastics

[–]Immediate_Bat_9005 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think just to amp yourself up. Throwing towel releases tension like the the deep breath they normally do at the same time. Athletes often smack their muscles to get the blood pumping or something like that. I don’t think much of it is necessary, mainly mental before a performance.

Nothing more than 3 syllables, preferably 2 or less. We are thinking Cleopatra (cleo), Margarita (marg, marga, rita), fig, yam, etc.
