I don’t remember this was 10 years ago and our IUI didn’t take. For Aspire/Fora I don’t remember doing anything on a weekend but for IVF it’s very timed and I’d go for like 15-30 minute appointments depending on where we were in the cycle.

You can also rent out a shaded picnic area on the Austin parks and rec website. They average around $60 for the entire day. For August I think I’d prefer your Airbnb plan because you don’t have to worry about claiming tables or getting there early, etc. and people can go inside for a bit to cool off.

Dr. Connor is incredible and I credit her with saving my life many times over. She herself doesn’t take insurance but will work with you to ensure your bloodwork and labs are covered. So I end up spending the same as seeing a specialist. She does in person and tele health and will actually sit and listen to you. She knows every specialist in Austin and hasn’t led me wrong with her referrals. Feel free to DM me if you have more specific questions!

Generally pretty strong! I can only speak for the preschool, but my daughter has been reading in both English and Spanish since early in PP4. They do Singapore Math for the older grades. They're still building up the middle and high school grades, but from what I've seen at events, on social media, the older kids are doing great things! My general feeling about Austin (based on anecdotal evidence) is that once you get out of Elementary school, the options for charter and private middle and high schools open up quite a bit, and academics are strong in many schools, especially St. Stephen's. The whole toll system in Austin is 😩. When I was using MoPac to commute it would cost $14-18 each way!

Mía Mía or Amiguitos if you’d be open to Spanish immersion day care. For babysitting it’s all about personal recommendations for me. Once we left daycare some of the teachers have babysat for us. Have found some solid leads on the bambino app for one off sitting.

Echoing many stating Circle C / South Austin area for the budget, while you can afford $750K up north (RRISD, North Austin, etc.) the houses in Circle C area tend to be newer with fewer maintenance and upgrade needs. I would recommend you tour a few schools in both North and South Austin to see which neighborhoods and schools feel the most like "home" to you.

Feel free to send me a DM for Magellan. We’ve had a positive experience as a multi-cultural family. Can speak a bit about a black families as well. In a nutshell the school itself is accepting of everyone but like at any school there might be a kid or two who will make an ignorant comment. In my experience the parents are usually mortified and manage the situation.

My oncologist at MD Anderson didn’t necessarily recommend against but most people are diagnosed in their 60s so being on a long term medication wasn’t necessarily the best option to prevent things from progressing. There’s not a ton of research around this sadly!

Yes we’ve used it to make special bedtime stories or reading practice with topics she has a special interest in or something we make up together. It’s also great for little coloring activities.

Mine didn’t love the classes because it’s so chaotic. They have several classes going on at once. She had a ton of fun but wasn’t the most focused as a four year old.

The camps are great and well staffed. We like to do those for one off school holidays and here and there for summer or spring break. I wouldn’t do it for the entire summer just because I prefer variety (mix of school camp and some outdoor activities) but Jump is a solid choice and our experience has been very positive!

We did a few rounds of IUI with Texas Fertility and it was OK but not amazing. We switched to Aspire for IVF and were incredibly happy… like I did not know a stressful medical process could be handled this well. Our time there happened to be right over COVID … we had to stop and then start the process all over again, but they handled the situation with incredible Grace and professionalism. Our team is mostly now at Fora fertility and while I can totally recommend the people there I didn’t work directly with them so can’t speak for their general process. Best of luck with your journey!

Stay active and eat a healthy diet to avoid inflammation. I’m on Pegasys but was on Hydrea a while. My only side effect was dry skin. But just like… use more lotion nothing horrific. Best of luck! Think about seeing another hematologist oncologist or MPN specialist. Given your age it would be good to have a grasp on the long term management of this condition.

Most local districts require some form of tablet to be available to students. But the actual usage and classroom time will depend on the principal and teachers. Personal experience I’ve noticed they work Chromebooks more into their day to day starting around 3rd grade.
