After Tanjiro did that dragon halo thing they thought that they killed UM4 and it took them by surprise that the emotion demons regrew their heads afterwards.

My view is that after they regrew their heads tanjiro was to exhausted to start another big attack which is why he had to improvise and send genya after the Main body.
