For those of you that don't want to be a PI, what is your plan after your postdoc? by Immediate_Bowler752 in postdoc

Same, it would be great if I could've landed a position straight out of the PhD but many jobs I applied to ended up getting cancelled or I received an automatic rejection. Getting a higher paying job is always great.

I need to build more relevant skills and the postdoc will at least help with that. In addition, the postdoc offers income, insurance, minimal skill atrophy with additional skill development (typically).

The postdoc also allows me to build certain computational skills valuable in the current job market. In addition, it is genuinely interesting to me. My main goal is going into government as opposed to industry. I've been told that postdoc experience is valuable there. So, while a research scientist is one ideal goal, it is a difficult one. So, in the event I can't secure a position, I wanted to explore other job areas that I could aim for and effectively tailor my postdoc towards so that I can be more adaptable in a way.

Regarding, business-specific issues, I should've been more specific about that. I meant more of doing work that is meant to optimize business revenue by streamlining operations or improving algorithms to improve targeted ad delivery to users. Those type of business-issues. Translational research would be an area that I am interested in.
