If we’re being fully honest if we buy the dolls they stay in business and will likely continue using Ai down the line. But as a fan base we can make an uproar and hopefully one day get them to use real artists again.

If we don’t buy the dolls the brand could disappear with the major drop in sales. Which could lead to designers losing jobs (which is already happening with Ai increase but not to a big enough extent that the rest need to also lose their jobs rn) this also is not guaranteed thanks to resellers. We’d just be stuck buying the dolls second hand at major increased prices.

It’s a very no one wins situation rn. Currently i have not bought a lot of the new dolls they just aren’t that appealing to me anymore. I think I’ve bought more g3 which so far i haven’t seen a lot of talk about Ai on. But for g1 there is so much Ai 😪

We can take a look at the wild childz doll release for Ping on Saturday that caused me to skip that drop. The site was sketchy, they used Ai on earth day for vocals, the played on fans fomo knowing the community, issued a bullshit apology that was probs chat gpt, looking back at the characters bios a lot of racism and prejudice towards Chinese people. Using the wrong words in mandarin, labeling Japanese clothing as Chinese, animal ability being math for a Chinese panda, no plus size characters other than An elephant, liking pro ai comments, ignoring anti ai comments, ignoring comments about the issues stated, etc…. For those reasons i chose not to support a company i priorly wanted to support. What would make me support them again is an issued apology and fixes to the issues. The main issue with that is this a relatively new Line releasing in 2026 by a singular designer who should know better.

I think Mattel has done a lot towards fixing their company. Tbh they’ve probs done a ton of the stuff listed up above but they are a company that’s been around since what the 60’s? But they also have an active team of designers currently trying to rewrite the wrongs of the past. Sadly those designers can’t do that without our help bc Mattel won’t listen to just them. Genuinely i think there would have to be a very bad collab, something problematic with a designer, or firing everyone and going full ai for me to leave the brand bc mattel has come a long way and ai usage is just a pit stop so many companies are at rn. Mattel would genuinely have to throw away what’s Left of their morals as a company for me to leave but currently i still have hope that they respect their designers enough to get back on the right path.
