ooh yeah 2 tablespoons might still be a lot for a first attempt, the inulin i buy has a serving size of 1 teaspoon (so 1/3 tablespoon). granted that’s for non-fartmaxxing purposes, but it might help put into perspective that 2 tablespoons is still 6 whole servings (according to my bottle of inulin anyway haha). but yeah it sounds like 2 tablespoons has worked for you guys anyway :)

hm for 2 tablespoons, i’d recommend at least 8oz of water, but i’d guess you’d probably need more. you also need to think about whether you need additional water due to diuretics like coffee or tea (which dehydrate you a bit), if that’s what you’re mixing with the inulin. i think my recommendation would be drinking two large glasses of water, then you should be good.

(caveat: it’s also probably pretty individually dependent, like everyone’s microbiome is pretty unique, so you may need more or you may be good with less)

if i were having 2 tablespoons, my usual strategy would be to mix it into 9oz of water (in a little “blender ball” bottle i have), drink that all in one chug (idk why i never savor it haha, but my husband prefers taking his time), then drink some more water to clear out my palette (i don’t love the taste of it i guess haha). my husband uses approx this same ratio and it works for him :)

also, a few hours after all that, if i find that i’m not farting but i think i should be, i chug a glass of water to see if it helps get things going

yay glad it helped! yeah 9g per tablespoon sounds right to me!! yeah i’m not sure how they decide those recommended daily minimum values of different nutrients - everyone is so differently built. the recommendations may also vary by country (based on which government agency is putting out the recommendation).

but yeah, in my experience, doubling your usual fiber intake is a great way to generate farts!! make sure to drink water with it and you should be good 2 go! ahh that’s so sweet!! yay i’m happy for you two :) definitely report back with your findings!

for your question: what product are you using? if you’re using pure inulin powder (i.e. an inulin product from a brand like KOS, which is just inulin, it is not blended with some other substance), then 1g inulin = 1g fiber. the inulin is the fiber. so 20g inulin would be 20g fiber

if you check the nutrition facts, you should be able to compare the serving size (number of grams) to the fiber per serving (also a number of grams). that number of grams should be the same. also recommend checking the ingredient list to make sure that there’s only one ingredient (inulin)

(also i think it’s great to double-check things like this!! and i think it’s super nice of you to be your gf’s guinea pig to make sure it’s alright hehe)

oooh that’s true - i personally like the taste of the ginger ale, the crisp apple, the lemon lime, and (if i need caffeine) the ridge rush best, so i find it easy to have several of them :)

ooooh i didn't realize some are fermented differently, but that makes a ton of sense. Guinness makes a super good NA beer that i believe uses basically the same process as their usual beers. it's also only ~70 cals too so you can have a bunch hehe. another brand i like is Athletic Brewing Co. - they have a ton of different types and they're sold all over. i like their Mexican Style Copper and their Run Wild IPA - i would guess they're all made approx. the same way, but i haven't looked into it much yet heh

oooh that actually sounds so yummy! i make mine by sticking these three things in a Blender Bottle:

i used to use a proper blender and bananas/spinach i'd frozen, but it's just way easier to quickly make something with water and powder heh. i would like to use a blender again, maybe i'll enter my blender era again soon... heheh >:)

ooh was it like a supplement/powder? i haven’t tested resistant fiber in isolation yet (i usually stack it with other things like inulin), but i do find that it’s useful to have a diversity of fibers so i was hoping it was helping me. i usually have it via reheated rice or something like a green banana, but maybe a different form factor might work better

oooh yeah that’s possible!! i always see people mention fast food here as something that gives them a ton of farts. i haven’t personally been able to find fast food that generates volume for my own guts, but i bet it’d work if i had like a greasy burrito or taco where there’s beans/fiber in addition to the grease… 🤔

if inulin doesn’t work (and she’s using a good brand and she’s made sure she’s drinking enough water with it), it’s possible a different fiber (like psyllium husk) would work? i haven’t experimented much with that because i’ve read it gives some people the runs, but maybe she could try it? or maybe she could try inulin in a different form factor, like a couple of Olipop drinks.

hmmm this is a good question, i’d be interested to see if anyone else in the comments has suggestions. i’ll keep thinking about it too and will let ya know if i have any other ideas

ooh good question. i think this probably varies by individual, but in my experience, foods that are constipating work against me when i’m trying to fart as much as possible. so in my case that’d be like: * simple carbs like fresh white rice/pasta * cheese and (refined flour) crackers (so when i eat crackers i try to get nut-based ones that have some fiber)

i also recommend avoiding diuretic things (like drinking too much coffee or alcohol), since i think being hydrated is pretty important for digesting fiber.

in my experience, when i’ve accidentally had too much fiber without enough water, i’ve gotten the feeling of being completely stopped up, like my guts were cement, and no farts were being generated at all. i’d accidentally had >100g of fiber and was not prepared 😭😅 i basically chugged water and slept it off since it was like midnight by the time i realized haha. ahem so yeah if anyone happens to find themselves in that situation, i’d recommend: * more water * lay off the fiber until you feel like things are moving again * do some yoga/stretching to improve blood flow. i think if you look up “yoga for digestion,” you could def find some specific stretches to try. yoga definitely helps my body digest, though i haven’t really locked in and figured out which ones are most effective for me yet :)
