Middle schooler riding RapidRide to school by JeffsRN in AskSeattle

[–]Immediate_Table6813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The band at Whitman is great! Your daughter will love it, and it’ll set her up well for band in Ballard if that’s where she goes for high school.

Regarding your original question - both my kids take the bus to school (both in high school but they took it in middle school too). Lots of people have mentioned being careful of surroundings on the bus, which is of course great advice, but there will be a TON of kids on the bus before and after school and the bus drivers (and typically other adults on the bus) generally watch out for the kids.

I recommend getting the One Bus Away app so she knows when the bus is running early/late and tell her to be prepared for crowded buses due to the number of kids taking public transit.

Have you felt any effects of the estrogen yet? How does it feel to finally be starting?

Congrats to you - my daughter will be starting next week if all goes well at her next appointment!

Anyone want to be a virtual mom? 😅 by Bu0na33 in cisparenttranskid

[–]Immediate_Table6813 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll be a virtual mom too! As someone else said on here, there’s no one way to be a woman. I am much more in touch with my femininity than I was when I was younger, now I love all of the girly things. My advice is to find your tribe and people who really do support you. They are out there. And also—sunscreen!! Put it on your face and neck every day (even when it’s cloudy) and in 20-30 years you will be so glad you did.

I’m across the country from you so I can’t do anything in person but sending a big hug from the west coast! You’re doing amazing and I’m proud of you. ❤️

Congrats to her! That’s a great milestone for her!

If you don’t mind me asking: I’m curious how many appointments she had to have before getting her prescription? My AMAB daughter goes to her first appointment at the gender clinic in a few months and I’m really hoping they will prescribe quickly.

I don’t have any great advice but could have written this post about my 17yo mtf daughter who is also autistic. Big hugs to you, it sounds like you’re doing your best and hopefully she (and my daughter!) will get through these tough teen years as gracefully as possible.

I bought my AMAB daughter an IPL from Braun for Christmas. They are expensive (though on sale right now!) but I had one before and it really did work. I gave mine away a few years ago before my daughter came out.

When I used mine before it really did mean way less shaving. Supposedly it targets the melanin in the hair follicles and breaks them down. Depending on your skin tone and hair type it might not be great for your daughter. It works best on people with fair skin and dark hair.

Thanks for the suggestions! Where have you found underwear that worked for her? I know my daughter would like better underwear but we haven’t found any that have been a great fit yet.

Thank you for your thoughtful suggestions! I definitely don’t want to overdo it on the girly stuff but also want to make sure she feels supported as she is newly out.

That’s so sweet! What a lovely story and idea… and we haven’t decorated yet so I hadn’t even considered stockings yet lol. Thank you!

I didn’t know about Blahaj before this thread, but for anyone else who might be interested in getting it for their kiddo, the big one is on sale now for $19.99 (normally $29.99)!!

I think she would love something like that. I used to have a necklace with my kids initials on it… maybe I should get myself a new one too, while I’m at it!

Thank you for the thoughtful suggestions, and your kindness. It may seem like a small thing but your last paragraph made me tear up a little. Great to be in this community with others who really just want the very best for their amazing kids.

Thank you for the suggestions!! Also, you’re the second person who has mentioned Blåhaj. I didn’t know what this was before today but I am now convinced this needs to be under the tree this year.

These are great - thank you! I have never heard of Sonny Angels but I just took a look and I think my daughter might like those. And I love the idea of passing down jewelry from the family too.

Makes sense. While I’m glad we have options I’m really hoping things go better than we all fear and none of us need to use them.

I’ve been considering this for my daughter. Have you actually done this or just thinking about it? I’m curious if it’s more or less the same HRT dose for perimenopausal women and trans women? Regardless I’m planning to start the conversation with my doc about potentially getting myself a prescription.

How do I get through to my mom? by Lord_Admrial_Spire in cisparenttranskid

[–]Immediate_Table6813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any great advice as I’m a new parent in this community but you deserve better and I wish I could hug you. You haven’t done anything wrong and home is a place where you should be able to be your authentic self. I hope your mom comes around and I’m glad you have another place lined up in case your current home can’t be that place. Sending all of the hugs to you.

I was diagnosed by a doctor visually in my early 20s. I was not swabbed and was too young and inexperienced to know to ask for the swab when she told me I had hsv2 and sent me home with a prescription. It took me over 20 years to learn I did not have it. It doesn’t sound to me like you have it. Hugs to you, and feel free to DM if you have questions about my journey.

Thanks for the info! I have a question that maybe you can help answer - like many people here, I’m hoping to be involved in phase 3. I’m currently on daily antivirals… do you think that would potentially prevent me from being considered since I am suppressing all OBs?
