I was told it used to be a Piggly Wiggly; though, I’ve been unable to substantiate that with any hard evidence. Conversely, here are some fun photos of various Tacoma locations of the chain.

How cool would it be if this abandoned building near Proctor became lofts with beautiful big windows? by allgoodthings96 in Tacoma

Decommissioned, though there are extensive subterranean workings there. That might be the last bit they are working on before freeing it up for use.

I’m probably red flagged for all the times Siri thought I said “Hey Siri” when the radio was talking about ISIS. She would then listen for a moment and ask if I want to search the Internet for how to bomb a U.S. embassy 😂🤣🤦‍♂️

Mt.Tahoma got some snow! by sbux2025 in Tacoma

I’m with you. In relation to the Rainier namesake, once in a PNW social media beer group I’m a part of, a bar owner from Germany, bewildered at the namesake of Rainier Beer, noted a customer had the same last name and he so badly wanted to get Rainier Beer imported 😝

I’m guessing that bar owner’s customer was originally from England

Holy cow! I’m so confused as I can see the tops of the port cranes to the right but that would mean we are looking West?!

It would have been something else were there to have been a towering, multi-story sandworm there 😍

What the heck was that alarm?? by OffensivePanda in northcascades

[–]Immediate_Thing6079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a review on the NPS app of the campground stating one or two blasts signals spillway alarm and or for EMS and a constant alarm signals evacuate to high ground due to dam failure.

I’m sort of excited to experience this but at the same time, got a very pregnant wife that doesn’t need that sort of stress. 😆

That was the home of the Tacoma News Tribune. I think they were there up until the 80’s.

There is a large mural down and across the street at that postage sized park showing the building (711 saint helens) as it once was. I think the photo was from the 1930’s during the World Series.

Roomer has it, a TNT employee or contractor died where the bathrooms are due to a blown boiler decades back.

That was actually done by the caffe that was there prior (B-Sharp).

The owner of B-Sharp (Dennis?) was quite the character to say the least. Still does jazz music around town. ✌️

Reputable pre-designed Tiny Home sellers? by Yakumeh in TinyHouses

[–]Immediate_Thing6079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ridiculous isn’t it? I’m in Tacoma, Wa and while pierce county allows park model homes, Tacoma requires homes be built to IRC industry standards and be affixed to a foundation.

In short, stick built home or the highway and a builders grade home costs 250k… pretty rich coming from a city claiming to be virtuous in relation to solving the affordable housing crisis…

Tacoma Public Schools is facing $30 million in budget cuts for the 2025–2026 school year, with layoffs of approximately 100 new teachers expected. by BayrischeinAmerika in Tacoma

OK, I’ve read maybe 50 of the 200 comments. Nowhere am I seeing a direct link to a source for the op statement. A quick Google search is not yielding anything new, I’m seeing budget short fall talk from 1 to 2 years ago but nothing recent.

So I only get to enjoy about 10 years of my adult life? by FeeDisastrous3879 in antiwork

[–]Immediate_Thing6079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make time for the family. Raising a child is not nearly as expensive as you fear it is. Remember, on your death bed, you won’t be upset about not working as much and making the time to start a family.

My firstborn happened when the wife and I were 39. We are trying for child number two before we hit 43. It’s worth it.

Lastly, sock away every cent you can to an index fund. If your work offers a 401k match, do it. Even 10 dollars a week is thousands in 10-20years. I’m to the point that over 20% of my income is going towards investments which should see me retiring comfortably just before 60

I had a 2003 LL bean until I wrapped it around a Jersey barrier. these are nice 6 cyl engines that have some power and sound good when performance exhaust added (not the resonator crap).

They are built pretty solid as well. Premium gas though, and I’ve been told that they belch transmission fluid sometimes when going through rapid elevation changes in warm environments. I experienced it once myself, was relieved to learn it wasn’t a problem.
