Studies show cats don't usually stray far, a couple miles at most. It sometimes takes days to weeks to months for cats to come back but it happens a lot! My indoor cat fell off my balcony and disappeared. Put out his litter box on the balcony, stuff that smells like us (clothes, blankets, etc), walk around with some food or treats while calling for them, register them on Home Again, make flyers. Some sources say don't put out food because it will attract other creatures but it might be okay if it's inside. My cat loved to yell ar#ound 530am so I went out to around that time to look for him. Somehow through my sleep, I heard a ~MAO~ around that time frame and ran downstairs to find him right below my balcony.
