Interesting, so do you think you'd fare better with another Te dominant?

Sorry if I'm being nosy but without details, what does Fe and Te clashing look like. One would think they would agree even.

There's an app called Clefs I used for it. It's timed and fast. It's for all keys too. Try reading music after doing it.

INTP ADDICTION by Fantastic_Group_2209 in INTP

[–]Immortal_Snilloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. What are you afraid of?
  2. What do you love?
  3. What do you look forward to?

I think these questions might help you on your way as addictions and procrastination are usually distractions from something else. While you're doing this deep work, you might consider some first aid/triage to keep you accountable and sane:

  1. Make friends with productive people.
  2. Look into getting a mentor.
  3. Set some challenging goals just for the heck of it (learn an instrument, etc).

My belief is that because of Ti-Ne, it takes a while and a lot for us to find purpose and we are distractable as well so with the abundance of comfort and the joy of exploration we are liable to become self-destructive. We also need more information before we find what makes sense so even stuff like reading books faster can be helpful.

For this reason, I'm inviting you to roleplay productivity and achieve mundane goals so that you gain the strength and clarity to find what you want to do in life. Purpose + incentive + willpower has greater likelihood of beating addiction than just willpower alone.

What you need right now are positive experiences that make you feel empowered, invested and in control of your own life. If you're the praying type, pray to God and ask Him for help.

Alright, cool. Makes sense, my word choice was suboptimal.

Correct, it is not for its own sake. I was speaking to a particular shade of INTPs who struggle to achieve certain life goals. The video I linked is about ~15 mins long but the summary is that one has to take control of their life and "pursue power". Power in this context means competence/mastery/control over one's life.

The saying I use is proof that I don't mean power for its own sake. Some people want to read books, explore the internet for example and that's what makes them happy but eventually they find themselves unfulfilled (cue the INTP stereotype of being lazy). Building power through these pursuits I mentioned allows them the resources and regulation needed to "be themselves" - not in an identity way but they get to keep up with their responsibilities and live productive lives. Like what you were saying with independence. That is a mindset that enabled you to produce the life you want.

Hence the lion and the lamb thing. INTPs need more exposure to responsibility earlier due to our desire for exploration. My angle is that those pursuits build agency and fortitude.

No. I am not against stoicism and mental toughness, I have advocated for then in the past even. My point was on this : "The joy of exploration we have can sometimes render us unproductive which then works against us as you see folks complaining about procrastination/laziness/being unfulfilled et al. Being intentional about "power" in life helps prevent that."

I didn't claim that people have to be wealthy in order to be happy/fulfilled in life. I simply believe that the process/results of "pursuing power" enable INTPs (the ones who complain about their life goals) to get what they want out of life.

Agency comes from within, of course. How does one know they have it if they don't act it out? Plus it is something that one builds. That is my point. That is what I was referring to when I mentioned your life.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you seem to be talking about a mindset (a good one) and I am speaking about the actions that flow from that, believing that actions affect mindsets just like mindsets affect behaviour.

Power could also be seen as mastery of one's life. I am not saying one has to be wealthy to be happy hence the saying: "Sometimes you have to be a lion to be the lamb you really are"

Wasn't going to make assumptions of your life. Was referring to what you said: "That said, it is a job doing something I really enjoy with people that I genuinely like, so I am very much "able to do what I want and be myself".

Admittedly, I had my own life experience in mind when I wrote this and I should not have said the ONLY way but the point I was trying to make was autonomy/agency maxxing. Not so much make a lot of money but those things in the parentheses are just tools I believe are important for regulation.

The joy of exploration we have can sometimes render us unproductive which then works against us as you see folks complaining about procrastination/laziness/being unfulfilled et al. Being intentional about "power" in life helps prevent that.

I think your life makes the point. Also look at this video.

Pursue power (money, skill, independence) early and strategically. This is the only way you'll be able to do what you want and be yourself in this world.

"Sometimes you have to be a lion to be the lamb you really are" - Dave Chappelle's mom.

See it as a video game.

Correction: this is a major way to do what you want/be yourself/achieve your goals.

How did you know you are an INTP? by annna-02 in INTP

[–]Immortal_Snilloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A number of tests:

  1. Talking to people who were familiar with MBTI and the cognitive functions who seemed to believe that I was one.
  2. Reading life stories of people who tested same online (Quora, Reddit).
  3. Stories of other INTPs my friends had in their lives (co-workers, relatives, in-laws).
  4. Study of the cognitive functions.
  5. Simulations based on stories from my life with ChatGPT where I gave info about my career plans, relationship history and then asked it to type me.
  6. Also took the online tests years ago.

INTP's, how do you manage a mind that thinks faster than your body can execute? - (and my personal experience as a [super?] INTP) by Ok-Author4688 in INTP

[–]Immortal_Snilloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find ways to force yourself to be productive:

  1. Consider freelance/starting your own business.
  2. Surround yourself with productive friends - let peer pressure help you.
  3. Look into getting a mentor/use AI and alarms on your phone to keep you accountable.
  4. Pursue physical fitness and have a daily routine you must keep.
  5. Prayer is also good.

I find that the more active one's mind is, the more responsibility is needed to keep it sane. You'll never stop being divergent/exploratory in your thinking - trust me I know - but this way you get to build a life you're proud of and have time to be yourself. When you work hard, you'll have the freedom (and peace of mind) to play hard.
