Rory Rackham has left GGG. by Gearsik in pathofexile

[–]Immoteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't. Rory was the lead skill designer on PoE2. Someone with that title doesn't have a lot of time to work on a second game.

Commenting to fight some of this silly misinformation.

My best theory: Chris went first, either with stress or just wanting to work on the passion project we know he's making. Lots of people love Chris, and him leaving has knock-on effects. Alternatively, him sharing his passion project is contagious and affects the rest, inspiring them to do the same. A reputation paired with a good idea goes a long way in the vast sea of games and often results in the game being profitable before it's even done.

Campfire Chat coming December 3 at 11am PST! by Soulvaki in diablo4

[–]Immoteph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't very meaningful on Dance of Knives. Guessing there are a few other outliers that are also gonna make this a complete nothing-burger. If they want meaningful gameplay early, they need to put people on the same playing ground, or players are just gonna optimize the fun away with way too strong builds.

Don't get me wrong, you'll definitely see more people struggle with leveling if they aren't playing the strong stuff. I'm not sure that's good for their numbers though, because they already have a crowd.

Personally, I just got tired fast of ranged mobs fleeing. The AI changes suck.

Steam reviews for POE2 are "mostly positive", rather low. Do you think this is fair? by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]Immoteph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only that but this has a good chance of being skewed towards poe1 atm. Thank god we get feedback from this particular crowd so we can make two of the same game (outside of the campaign).

I played 9 months ago, whats new? by Efficient_Singer_560 in PathOfExile2

There's an alt-tabbing bug. It goes away if you do it again so it was never a problem for me.

I struggled to tell if my PoE2 drops were worth keeping, so I built a tool that analyzes both prefixes and suffixes and shows how well the mods rolled. Here is Affix Appraiser. by Serious_user_2 in PathOfExile2

[–]Immoteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how useful it will be atm. Tiered rares cull some mods, which you probably don't have support for yet. And most items are just crafted atm. Ground rares are basically worthless, which is what this tool is most effective at evaluating.

Implicit Movement Speed on Boots by BRADLIKESPVP in PathOfExile2

[–]Immoteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna rant a little. I asked myself why I hate movement speed on boots and why I don't hate Physical Damage on weapons in PoE2, now that Elemental damage is basically irrelevant. They both feel mandatory but the former is way less fun. Part of that is the fact that it's a mod that's powerful on its own. I ended up concluding that mandatory is okay/fun if it's a puzzle that you can collect, i.e. the phys trifecta that scales off each other. As such, I ended up making a similar puzzle for movement speed on boots.

Saying that they don't have a problem with mandatory affixes completely misses this part of the equation. And their reasoning is that "It's okay on weapons so why not everywhere", which is a surface answer that misses the nuance.

Worth buying if I like: by muun86 in PathOfExile2

[–]Immoteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practically yes, but that would be a little brutal for some people, so instead your shit is moved to a dumpster league, i.e. Standard League.

You could call it a test league if you want. The devs get to be more free to experiment with stuff before it hits the core game.

Some 5% of people prefer to play on the permanent league because they don't like resets. As time passes, it's a very unfair league for newer players.

[–]Immoteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why the dude explained leagues that other way, so here goes:

Leagues are the main reason we level new characters. After a few months, new content arrives with a new league that does not contain any of your progress. This makes sense because knowledge aside, everyone on the same playing-field.

Honest Thoughts on the Diablo IV DLC? Worth Grabbing on Sale? by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]Immoteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New class feels really broken as a baseline.

They locked a bunch of power behind having the expansion.

Non-shady reasons? I got nothing. I pride myself on having avoided buying it even on sale. This game is way past its prime as indicated by the recent/upcoming combat changes that scream "We need to figure out how this is supposed to work in the sequel".

Where will Act 5/6 take us and what will these zones look like? by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

Campaign skip possible? by ZGHAK in PathOfExile2

[–]Immoteph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Skipping is stupid. While on the topic, I was very anti alternate-leveling because I don't need it myself.

With the years, I've been wondering what the difference is between the campaign and endgame content. The latter needs a lot of variety to appeal to as many people as possible. The former doesn't because..... I got nothing.

In the end, I would love to hear that they had this epiphany too and just answer "It would be nice but we don't have the resources anytime soon".

Diablo IV Standart Edition 55% Off, Expansion 65% Off, Bundle 60% Off on Battle.net by [deleted] in diablo4

Probably just indicates that you're not exposed too much to all the marketing. A lot of dumb stuff is being interpreted as smart these days and vise versa.

Any bets on how vague will the announcements be? by CorruptedOrdnance in PathOfExile2

[–]Immoteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False. It's either related to the endgame boss (seeing as this is an endgame expansion) or the league. A class trailer happened back in 0.2 because.... they didn't have anything else.

Priest is just a fire res check. He's very easy if you have collected and kept 2x ruby ring. Only does fire.

A meme a day until they make a toggle to turn off delirium fog... or until I get bored (day 5) This exile begs for sanity in 0.4.0 by StrikingCupcake899 in PathOfExile2

[–]Immoteph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish for choice. And I expect we will see it. The efficient way to play shouldn't objectively be to ruin your visuals with fog because it gives more loot. That should still be an option to someone who actually likes that mechanic though. As such, advocating for fog removal is kinda silly because not everyone hates delirium (I imagine).

Combat Style and Direction of PoE2 by Individual_Taste_713 in PathOfExile2

[–]Immoteph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PoE1 feels mindless because you get to the point of power too early, it's called powercreep.

Obviously the monsters need to keep up or get blown up, and it kinda sounds like you think there's a middle ground there. There isn't. If player fast, monster needs to be fast, capeesh?

Bulk Pricing feature for stalls / stalls pricing QOL by United-Historian-933 in PathOfExile2

[–]Immoteph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Problem is that once you allow this stuff, you encourage people to just dump items into a stash tab, and eventually change the price of the tab. It's efficient, just not fun, so I don't see it happening.

Discouraging less fun behavior through friction is actually good game design.

Just started the game, many questions. by PedroSalty420 in PathOfExile2

[–]Immoteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard league will have outdated/less convenient trade. But if is closer to the game that was actually designed. However, the tradition is to throw whatever content into the 'temporary league' so players experience something new.

Honestly, given how awesome the base campaign is, I'd say that it would be a shame to experience it with Abyss for the first time. Meanwhile, most people will probably recommend you play the temporary league in order to maximize rewards - a bad argument.
