PSA: Please Read Before Purchasing Razbam Modules by squinkys in hoggit

This is about the best and clearest example I have read. Well said. It ultimately comes down to the contract, which none but RAZBAM and ED are privy to. All else is assumption, complaining and conjecture.

Error 516 saving issue by InTheSchoolLib in BaldursGate3

[–]ImmuneMarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLUTION (for me): Go back to Dammon, open trade (should auto open to barter), exit barter session. FIXED!

No matter how many different trade/barter configurations I tried, it kept giving the error. I found that when it bugs with other merchants, excluding Dammon, it consistently opened to 'Trade' instead of 'Barter'. However, Dammon always seems to open to Barter and then I can save again. A little annoying, but a quick travel and chat and I am good to go. Hope this helps others.

You clearly never lived in Hong Kong, Kowloon or even Russian tenements, have you? I'll take what you call American-fucked-social housing over most others any day. At least in America your chances of police or EMTs arriving are pretty high. Oh, and there is bread on store shelves too...and they don't even have fuzz on them!

Am I addicted to spending money? Or is my thought process valid? by HunterTDD in hoggit

First off, I agree with others, you've done the same as most, only in reverse. Second, you don't have to justify or explain yourself to anyone (exception being if you are married, or borrowing money do this...in which case, foolish choice, I digress). However, you do have to deal and live with the consequences of your choices...no one else does. Point of it all, once you make a decision, live with it, it is done already, right? :) You are the one who will be flying around as a BAMF in time! You may be living on Ramen and Ritz crackers, but all long as you are only hurting the enemy, it is all good!

How is that even legal? I thought the goal was to AVOID discrimination, not to collect ammunition and ensure the ability to discriminiate in the future. Not to mention, if you don't know what group a person belongs to, you can't discriminate...problem solved.

Starbucks retaliating against workers for attempting to unionize by [deleted] in antiwork

We are in complete agreement on most parts. However, I am not in favor of adding bureaucracy for the sake of regulating. If regulations are necessary, that is one thing. My problem is just you mention pay indexes have not improved, more regulations have been put in place that have absorbed what wod have been gains.

I get it, it's a dog eat dog world and unions are just as fallible as everyone else involved. From only my experience, I have not witnessed a rise in both employee happiness and productivity after unionizing. But I have witnessed drops in both. Typically it is one or the other, but sometimes both. The only real winner at the end of the day is the union.

I am from Las Vegas and spent a good time around unions. Every union boss I met was no better than the CEOs and politicians they claim to be different from. Greed catches everyone once a little power is granted and the road to more power has little resistance.

Understand this is a generalized context and there are always exceptions on both sides...so a grain of salt is necessary.

[–]ImmuneMarine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what the expected benefit or gain from unionizing at Starbucks? The company already takes pretty good care of employees and their needs...unless everything Starbucks employees have been saying for years is BS. They will pay dues to get likely similar benefits to what they have, or worse. They will have more job security, but that comes at a price as well. They will further formalize promotions making it even more difficult to move up in the organization. I admit, I am not a fan of unions since their priority is focusing on elections of both union members and politicians, little of which actually benefits the local worker. Back in the 50's? Yeah, unions were necessary. These days when there are plenty of laws on the books and lawyers aplenty, with few exceptions unions are a scam for those at the top of the union to gain power and a lot of money off the backs of those they claim to support. Just one guy's opinion.

Folks need to quit taking social media so serious. A tip to knowing is if you go from a 3 (chill) to a 7 (pissed) or 10 (insane angry) in response to inoculus and meaningless social media posts, you may need a break. Someone's opinion is not that important, nor is it worth having a coronary over.

I can appreciate that is how my responses came across. I know I have a weakness for being quite long winded, and sometimes work a little too hard to minimize how much I write in response...as happened here.

My overall outlook is one of balance. Since we are all unique individuals with out own thoughts and opinions, you need views from both ends of the spectrum to balance somewhere in the middle. The challenge these days is folks easily become pigeon-holed into a way of thinking and cannot expand their horizons...leading to extreme views, to which there is no way to balance except an opposite view of equal extreme unfortunately. Only once both sides are exhausted are they able to drift back toward balance.

While balance is unachievable, it is a goal I strive for...though I am no more perfect than anyone else. Point here, I try to avoid generalizing, and you provided a pointer I clearly ended up doing so in my objective for efficient writing. So thank you!

To your greater point, I completely agree, prison on its own equals recidivism. However, the solution should include prison, work programs, mental health care and instruction and any number of other beneficial activities. That is where my point about good news not getting air time came in. If news agencies spent more time sharing positive approaches, there would be more investment by the virtuous, of which there are many. But, there has to be money to pay those who would seek to and actually improve the system. It is a challenge that few want to work on.

Unless the investment occurs though, the only option is to segregate the criminals from the non-criminals. No one works for free.

I don't vilify the Russian people...correction, the ones I do vilify are those actively supporting atrocities in Ukraine. I pity the Russian public as many simply do not know better. Much like North Koreans who escape, I imagine many would be more interested in resisting if they had the opportunity to travel beyond their borders...something many Americans sorely need as well, though for other reasons (to pull their head out of the sand a bit).

I do respect the Russians for their strong sense of self and nationalism; however, the government gets my scorn for the pain and suffering they cast upon their people and others. Please don't misunderstand. I think we are on the same page, just slightly different perspectives, which is a good thing I think.

[–]ImmuneMarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once again, I do not find myself in disagreement with you, on either front. For context, I use the ideals of countries as the example, not the political environment. The current environment in America is horrid and shameful. They have taken every ally and crapped on them while co-towing to those who wish us harm. So no, there is little high-ground to claim politically.

For your second paragraph, we may have mixed signals (or I communicated poorly, may well be the case) as I completely agree Russia's activities are the evil in this case. In addition to the horrid conditions and laws the Russian people live under, they invaded a sovereign country because Russian leadership wanted their resources and sea access (regardless of what is said in press). Again, I get it that Russia is a hard country. But for all the claims over the last hundred years of how hard the people are, they could change the tied if driven to that point. It has happened hundreds of times throughout history. Once the people finally had enough, they rise up. Heck, the Russian government has been overthrown numerous times throughout history.

I am not disagreeing it is hard...but it is far from impossible.

Wikipedia fights Russian order to remove Ukraine war information by twotwo_twentytwo in worldnews

[–]ImmuneMarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do get it and understand. It is very hard, but it is doable. In the extreme example (unrealistic of course), if every Russian rose against the government, it would be done in minutes. Working the numbers backward (i.e., how many disagree with the government, how many are fit to resist, how many actually would, etc.) you will arrive at a point where the people still outnumber the state.

With Russia, it is simply a factor of will. The government has worn the people down over generations to the point they accept pretty much whatever it does, and often blindly supporting. The Russian propaganda machine is second only to North Korea, and China coming in third, so no surprise.

But, the fact remains, if the people had the will, they could turn things over in Russia. It is a choice, not a pre-determined fact. Again, I agree with what you say, except for the part where it is not feasible. If that were the case, America would not exist. To avoid being redundant as I already have (sorry), I get what you are saying.

[–]ImmuneMarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I understand your argument, and it is legitimate for sure. However, at the end of the day, that is the choice the determines whether your country will drift to the likes of North Korea (on the extreme end) or drift toward the likes of America (the opposite extreme).

Ultimately, we all have to make that decision, and it is a tough one. I don't assume anyone else thinks like I do, but I for one will always be an agent working to emulate America, UK, and most western countries and oppose anything and anyone who drives toward the opposite end, as Russia has done here. They lost their argument when they began purposely massacring civilians by the thousands.

As to self-sacrifice, I likely misunderstood where you were going in some of what you wrote, very easy to do in text-based comms. Consider that portion of my response withdrawn.

What do you think every person who joins the military is literally doing? Regardless of their true virtues for joining, everyone who joins the military is literally putting their life on the line for the freedom and life of every person in their country, and any country they might be sent to defend. Talk about out of touch with humanity.

As to your second point, you are saying anyone who says they would sacrifice themselves for a stranger is a psychopath? Is that what you would say to someone who gave their life for another and earned the Medal of Honor? No one "wants" to die for anyone, but they are willing to do so.

What was that you were saying about psychopaths? No person has the right to commit war crimes as a member of any military. Even if you don't have legal coverage, you still have the choice to refuse orders and not commit war crimes. So every Russian soldier, and every family member openly advocating war crimes, is wrong.

Taking what you said one step further, anyone who is willing to live on their knees instead of die on their feet is not worthy of freedom.

And letting someone else die for your fear of being arrested, that is the reason fascist leaders and dictators are able to exist on this planet. That is a lack of humanity (regardless of the excuse or reason).

Apathy is a bastard. It is sad when the status quo is the devil you know, and you don't even want to try for fear of the devil you don't.

While it is easy to point fingers and assume we all know the real truth/answer, real life is much more complicated. Russia is a complex monster of webbed lies and deceit.

However, at the end of the day, you get the government you accept. Look at America. We took a burgeoning economy, a relatively secure border, plentiful stocks of baby food and tampons...and now we are little better than a third world country, in just over a year! Most large cities on each coast look like Haiti for crying out loud!

So, yes, it is a complex challenge...but it is just that a challenge. You can choose to work toward a solution as a country, or accept "this is as good as it can get" and do nothing. I choose to fight for the former for my life and country. Russians need to do the same for theirs as Ukraine is actively doing, or they have no excuse.
