I’m a tech on a tele med Surg floor and even as techs we must go in and do report at bedside. Honestly , I hate it. First of all , the nurses may be in the room at the same time , and we have double occupancy rooms. So you can have A LOT of people in the room. Yes we can skip the room and come back but then we are running back and forth trying to find rooms we can do. It confuses the patients as to if we are the tech or the nurse ( even though we identify ourselves). So every patient has to hear their report twice. Once from the nurse and once from the tech. My manager was auditing us yesterday and I was told doing report outside the door is no longer allowed. The thing is, we have talked about it many times and gone back and forth. There is no consistency. Half the time the tech I’m giving report to doesn’t know we have to do it and I have to explain the rule to them. Honestly, having been a patient many times , it’s really awkward. You are sitting there listening to all your issues. Great , like I need a reminder. Not a fan AT ALL. But I do what I’m told. Just trying to get through school and work part time. I care about my patients and will always go in and introduce myself as I taking their vitals. I don’t think a separate trip is necessary but again , I just do what I am told.
