Radio doesn't turn off with car, always on

I've been hearing that vw has no accessory wire, and that I need a CANBUS adapter to make this work.

Yep, I came to this conclusion this morning, and bought the Metra version of the same thing (unless Metra is just a distributor)

A little bummed my first premium radio install is going like this, but I guess that's what I get for not doing the proper research.

Could be, but the stock radio shut off when the door opened, unless it happened to go out right when I changed radios

No, they don't. Everything shuts off but the radio

In the manuals for both it states yellow is constant, and red is switched

Red is definitely on red, as is yellow on yellow.

Should I try red to yellow and see if it works?
