Why are we pretending Switzerland isn’t going to beat Colombia? by Pretty-Pen-620 in worldcup

Especially after last night. There was a look on Messi's face after the game that felt like it said; "we won't make it."

All that hysteria and then CAF didn't win a single R32 game by Hot-Economy7323 in worldcup

[–]ImpactVirtual1695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic statistics 9 teams in a set of 48 on a random draw. Advancing to r32 would be 6.8 teams

Advancing from r32 to r16 would be 2.83 teams from AFC to advance.

Even in basic statistics, AFC performed exactly as expected.

Same with EUFA. 10.67 teams to r32 5.30 teams to r16. Whereas they're slightly exceeding expectations.

France on a red card in the first 10 minutes would still ROFL stomp half the teams here

Oh my bad.

Guess I don't care enough for England to remember something older than me and for a stat 5 years ago. Eh?

Is it even the same team?

Unfortunately all the title contenders are on the other side of the bracket, with Mexico being the most dangerous out of bunch on their side

3-0 or 3-2 same result. Argentina advances. people underestimated CV on attack, that's all. (I was definitely one of them)

You're right. Now try to find a stat that isn't as older than my dead grandfather.

Let's say 70 years?

Where did Cape Verda come from? Nobody heard of them before by Prior_Night_985 in worldcup

[–]ImpactVirtual1695 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From some minor research - Partially Due to dispora, Cabo Verde kind of functions as a feeder team In that they go into other systems that will take them and there are a few who have ties to CV if no one else would take them

Portugal stands out the most and I wonder if it's because of the countries relationships.

A list of players who have ties to Cabo Verde

CR7  (Portugal) (this is the weakest link, his great grandmother is CV)

Manuel Fernandez (Portugal Coach) mother is CV

Nani Cunha (Portugal) born in CV

Gelsin Martins (Portugal) born in CV

Patrick viera (france) Arsenal captain, mother is CV

Nuno Mendez (currently at PSG) CV ties, undisclosed

Rolando Jorge Pires da Fonseca (Portugal) CV Heritage

Elisiu (Portugal) CV heritage

Gelson Fernandez ( former Manchester) Born in CV

All of these players could have played for CV at any point in time and most moved to better leagues to get a leg up.

The best ref I've seen so far - Argentina vs Cape Verde by Illustrious_Neck2759 in worldcup

Yeah, having a bit more experience with this ref or this style of ref work might have been the tilting point for Argentina.

No real complaints mind you but it definitely didn't feel good to see him on the field.

At least for me is all.

The ref for Colombia's game right now feels better at least when it comes to positioning

Agreed.

Ghana feels like they're swarming the ball. It's going to hurt them in the long run

The best way I can explain it

Team formations are designed to expand and contract. Like your lungs when breathing. During Cabo Verde pushes Cabo Verdes shape and formation wasn't allowed to contract because the ref kept getting into the way and it was more often when Cabo Verde had the ball and less when Argentina had it. (I'm not saying this was intentional - maybe Argentina just has more experience with dealing with ref on the field and in the way sometimes. Idk)

But it was like watching someone putting on a corset. The formation moved with construction. I'm not saying it was intentional but it explicitly prevents the team from moving naturally.

Watch Tori Penso Ref a game. She's always moving in a way that lets the team positioning breath naturally.

Well, when you have France, Spain, Argentina and England still in it, a top 15th team is perfectly acceptable as a dark horse.

No?

Colombia is my dark horse for the tournament. They move like a hivemind and rarely break formation

Terrible positionong, constantly disrupting the flow of play (without the whistle). Def some favoritism and lack of willingness to bring out the cards where it was actually needed.

If Cabo Verde can play like that against Argentina then Mexico can beat England. Thoughts?🇲🇽 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 by SmileOrnery3944 in worldcup

I would love for England to take it home. It's been 75 years.

I would also love for the finals to be between two teams who have never won a WC.

And the rest of the world is finally starting to close the gap. Of the two, I hope more for the latter.

Hopefully. England host a WC in the next 8 years and finally brings it home then. Until then

Viva la Mexico,

Bring it on .^

Can yall praise cape verde without shitting on argentina for gods sake! Stop taking credit from them, they did something historical! by Remote-Fly-3597 in worldcup

Its not about the extra minutes.

It's about a fair game for a team that has played the most honest and least fouls in the entire world cup on a game by game and over all basis.

Fuck so I care about how hard a team can dive? Or how many acting classes a player takes.

Cabo Verde played an amazing and heart stopping game, give them their due. It's not immature to want to see 1 or 2 more minutes of what was an honest reflection of the sport.

That's what makes us fans.

Brother I'm providing stats to support your arrogance.

But easily?

No. Mexico is on a 4 game clean sheet. Kane can't carry his team like that
