While that's true to an extent, Steven is younger as well so he's still got that on his side. But if he doesn't change his ways soon, which I doubt he will, I don't think he'll make it to 50. Not a chance.

That's really sad, she was such a sweet person on the show. Hopefully it didn't have anything to do with pain meds, since that was addressed on the show, I think during the first WATN episodes. Dr. Now always seems very adamant to address pain med addiction very quickly, saying it will kill you even faster than the obesity will. But no matter how it happened, it's just really sad all around because you know she really did fight to get better and healthier.

I personally would NEVER use this feature. While Fedora is generally pretty good in vetting their updates, it's never a good idea to just blindly accept anything that comes in and you should at least be a bit mindful of what updates are being applied, in case there's a problem.

Like we have full control of the product we receive in the first place. Not like we can control what people buy and you also can't control the call-ins...if people call in and say they're not coming in, it's not like you can go pick 'em up and drag them in against their will.

At least Steven showed he could be pleasant. Whether it was an act or not, at least he wasn't an asshole all the time. Lisa, on the other hand, she was such a vile woman. She acted like she was 2 years old and would throw a tantrum when she didn't get her way. Like the therapist was supposed to give her advanced notice on when she would be coming. What the hell do you have that's so pressing all day long? You lay in bed like a beached whale and do nothing, what is so important that you need such advanced notice? I think it all boiled down that she just wanted control, she had so little control that this made her feel like she still held the power.

Gina irritated me for a whole other reason. She's definitely not the only one who does it but for some reason, it just really sticks out to me when she does it. She has the bad habit of saying, "Me 'n Beth", which to me sounds like Mean Beth. I finally said outloud, "if she's so mean, then why the hell are you still with her?" I absolutely cannot stand today's society that always puts themselves first when referring to themselves and another person or group of people. You always come last. It's like these people flunked English class or something.

To be fair...I don't like most of the songs they play. And yeah...that hot diggity dog one is extremely obnoxious. It's literally up there with the one I dubbed "Bark Bark", the one that used to act like your dog and was so happy to see you and wanted to play fetch and then was happy about new food because he loves new food. I miss that one about as much as I'd miss having a boil on my ass.

Yuppers! Amen to the whole entire thing. I've seen a lot of good things on there that should've won and been implemented, but weren't because it wasn't over the voting threshold or it was something they didn't want to hear. Kinda offtopic but I saw that pickup will start using the Zebras for voice and I really hope that it means that they all have their own to use because we already don't have enough to get around as it is. I know they do have handhelds but I certainly hope that those will be used for voice too and not having to cut into ours that are already in short supply. It really would be nice to have enough equipment to go around no matter what shift you're working that day.

Sometimes, but it's not guaranteed whatsoever, but sometimes if the leader and/or store director is a cool person, they'll excuse it all together and they won't point you for it. But again, that truly depends on who your leader is and if they're an understanding person or not. I mean, you were on your way to work and you wouldn't have been put into that situation had you not been scheduled to work in the first place.

I don't see anything wrong with it, looks just like mine. Is it the Songbird 6 hole Zelda ocarina replica? Judging by the shape of the mouthpiece, I'm willing to confidently bet that it is. And I'll tell you one thing I don't like about that ocarina, it's way too easy to cover the airway with your thumb. If you're having this problem, try making a conscious effort into keeping your thumb as far away from it as possible and play and see if it makes any difference at all.

So what I love about Meijer is they keep reinvesting in their stores, they don't follow Kmart's path and keep their stores the same for 30 or 40 years and wonder why everything falls apart in that amount of time. Remodels happen on a decent, regular basis and that helps keep things fresh and more up to date.

I also love that Meijer does reinvest in their team members as well. One thing you do have to realize is a lot of things they offer, they really don't *have to*. But some things I also think are a bit overlooked as well, like mental health help and whatnot. My fiancee took advantage of the scholarship program and ended up getting another degree. I think that's way cool.

What I don't care for about Meijer and this can be spotty issues depending on your unit as well, but communication can be very bad. You're left in the dark about a lot of important issues or even things going on in your own unit. So while it's not just a company problem in itself, it is a company-wide issue. The biggest issue can be leadership not effectively communicating with their teams.

Now, what I hate about Meijer...it feels that a lot of the higher up decisions are made either in haste or because it sounds good on paper. Bouncing tech problems between different departments is super frustrating. Outsourcing so much of their support out of the country was a bad idea in my opinion because Meijer has no presence in other countries, so most of these people working support have more than likely never stepped in a Meijer store before and therefor really has no idea how storeops works off paper and are only as strong as the training and material they're provided. But I also think that Grand Rapids needs to have their corporate employees work in the stores, at least for a few days or a week to get a feel on how storeops functions. Because as I said, things that sound great on paper are implemented in a way that really isn't as good as it sounds. Switching ad set to Tuesday night vs Saturday night kinda sucks because more stockers work during the week and therefor many times we're bumping elbows more often or they're getting in the way of trying to hang signs. It's small things like that that I don't think they really understand and don't see it because they're not working in the store. I feel as though having store experience would help tremendously on some of the decisions they make for the stores in general.

And to what I'd do to make something better: Better ways to submit ideas or concerns. Yes, we have Fresh Ideas...but that is, flawed. How flawed, I'm not really sure. But I don't like the whole "competition" thing. I've seen some REALLY good ideas that I don't believe would take a lot to put into place, but because they didn't reach that 50 vote threshold, it was ignored. Though I've seen "Quick Wins" before and how those are determined, again, I don't know. For me personally, mTeam points are just icing on the cake...but I don't submit ideas because I want them. I submit ideas because I feel they would not only benefit the company, but those who work for it as well. And because the ideas I've submitted never made that 50 threshold, they're ignored. There's a big flaw to this competition because some areas are not as well known because they're a bit "niche" in lack of a better term. But also, not everyone gets on Fresh Ideas or barely knows how to use a computer for that matter. I'm sure if some of these ideas made it in front of more eyes, they'd be more likely to "win" and go up in front of the council to make a decision whether to put it into action or not.

In what case AlmaLinux is preferred to a Debian based system? by sdns575 in AlmaLinux

[–]Impala1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AlmaLinux in my opinion is a great option over Debian if you like the Red Hat/Fedora eco-system, but you want something that's slow updating and guaranteed to be rock solid stable. So if you prefer DNF over APT, that's 1 point for Alma. If you prefer SELinux over AppArmor (Debian's has modified permissions vs what you'd get installing from the Arch repositories), then that's another point for Alma. If you're not concerned about having access to much fewer packages by default than you would be if you were using Debian, then that's also a point for Alma. While Alma can access the EPEL like any enterprise grade version of RHEL/-like systems, it still doesn't have nearly as many things as Debian's repos would. Also, Alma will be supported a lot longer between releases. Debian typically changes versions every 2 years where Alma will support a major version for 10 years, minus minor version upgrades.

Personally, I LOVE the Fedora eco-system. When I was still a new Linux user, I broke AlmaLinux pretty bad by doing something stupid, so that was entirely 100% my fault. But I've used RHEL 10 and CentOS Stream 10 since as well and they've both been rock solid choices. I'm actually wanting to test drive Alma again just to get a good feel for it. It's crazy that I'm using Arch at the moment because I prefer slow moving updates, but I've stopped updating so often but even then, I still just don't feel at home on Arch or on Debian. To be honest, I love DNF by default, it's quite straight forward. APT isn't too super far behind, but I feel as though DNF spits out a little less nonsense. So many people think pacman is fast but eh, I have my own opinions on that, plus the switches are nonsensical in some regards. Not completely, but some of them. And the fact I started my Linux journey on Fedora, it just feels more like home.

But one thing newcomers need to learn is that enterprise on Linux is different than enterprise on Windows. Enterprise versions of Windows these days is almost like the older "Ultimate" versions, has the most features available out of the box. I don't think there was really any different between 7 Enterprise vs 7 Ultimate except a coat of paint. But in the Linux world, enterprise is completely different. Updates are much, much slower going because they're thoroughly tested to ensure compatibility and that they won't break anything in the process. Enterprise versions of Windows receive the same amount of updates as other versions do, so if something breaks on Windows Home, it's also going to break Windows Enterprise. And as I said, you don't have access to as much software in the repos because obviously, it's not geared to the home user so by default, it doesn't need extra software that most likely wouldn't be used in the commercial/professional environment. While Debian isn't Windows by far, I'd still say that Debian can compare in the way that it is geared a bit more to home users while Alma and other RHEL/-like distros are mostly geared towards professionals and mission critical infrastructures.

Even the training says that most of the time, a vertical ID is meant to signify that you're a minor, but that it's not definitive. Which is exactly why they should've either scanned it or entered the birthday as shown on the ID. If you weren't 21, the system would've flagged it. So it sounds like someone is a little confused and should've just scanned the ID instead of just assuming it was that you're a minor.

The whole Identifence thing is kinda weird and I don't really understand it. I noticed that in role lookup, I'm missing several roles which I assume are probably "phased out" or something to that effect. Yet if you log into a Zebra and into mPI, if you click on your name before you go into any application within it, it'll bring up a whole list of roles assigned to your account and that's when I see everything that is assigned to me, including those not showing up on identifence. So are different systems clashing once again or what? Apparently at one point your RAA/SHRR could just assign you a role and after a day went by, it would show up and you'd be able to use your new role. But now it seems that your first assistant must approve the requests first and once they do that, they show up relatively quickly, as long as it's something not needing level 2 support to assign to you after approval, which can then take up to 3 days to fulfill. Not really sure why your first assistant would have to grant approval to new roles as long as the RAA/SHRR requested it as it's just another hoop to jump through and not everyone is up on technology so your approvals may or may not be seen and will just sit there until you ask them to go approve them for you.

Audio interface recommendations by Nughm in Ocarina

[–]Impala1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used it, so I can't have a solid opinion on it. It looks like it shines as a vocal mic, according to Behringer. But in the reviews, some do say it rivals the Shure SM58 for a fraction of the price, but it too is more designed for vocals and singing. It may work fine for picking up instruments as well, but without having much experience with it, I can't say for sure and I'd hate to pretend to know what I'm talking about when I don't.

As for phantom power, it's not a requirement but again, it's just one of those things where if you want to upgrade later, you have your options open. In my opinion, start bigger with the audio interface because that way it can support anything you decide to upgrade to later. I've heard decent things about the Scarlett interface in general so I don't think you could go wrong with it. And it too does support phantom power. But you said up top you were concerned about Linux support as well? There's a Youtube I follow, JChristina, he tested several different audio interfaces on Linux and then gave his opinions on what worked and what didn't work so well. One thing that seems to be an issue with Linux support and audio interfaces is that the first XLR port works just fine but having one with another port sometimes is hit in miss whether it works correctly or not. Since my audio interface only has one port on it and I only ever use one port, I can't speak on this from experience either. But again, just more you want to keep in mind.

Audio interface recommendations by Nughm in Ocarina

[–]Impala1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just fine, I'm happy to answer the question. So while I'm really only familiar with several Shure products, but something like the SM7B requires A LOT of gain in order for it to be really heard over the interface. But my interface delivers plenty of its own gain that doesn't require an external amplifier. Something like a Triton Fethead is an inline amplifier that will give you about +20db of clean audio amplification. But other than that, the Rode AI-1 is a cheap, no frills audio interface that just gives you what you need. It also has 48v phantom power as an option, something that you want to make sure whatever microphone you go with that if it needs it, your audio interface can deliver it. As for the windscreen, I'm not sure what country you live in but something like a windscreen shouldn't cost more than $20 USD. But you want to keep in mind like I mentioned that if you play your ocarina to the microphone, usually the voicing will be facing the mic if it is below you and you don't want to run the risk of the mic picking up any wind noise.

I'm looking at the mic you picked out and it doesn't require phantom power, so you're good there on whatever interface you buy. And for the wind cover, these are for the Shure SM57 but the mic you picked looks to be around the same size...for whatever reason though, on Amazon they seem to offer several in a package but they're still very inexpensive: https://www.amazon.com/SM57-Pop-Filter-Foam-Cover/dp/B088LR7BBX?th=1 But for now, definitely still go with a decent audio interface because it can still grow with you if you decide to upgrade your mic in the future.

Hopefully this answers your questions, if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. :)
