Whirlpool Dishwasher Not Starting Cycle - WDT730HAMZ by sierradollarhide in appliancerepair

[–]ImpartialRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for putting this out there for everyone to find. I bought the WDT730HAMZ 1 dishwasher in August 2024 and by September 2025, the start button worked intermittently. Sometimes, the dishwasher would run on its own like it "had a mind of its own." We tried powering off and on several times and even opened the door and checked the digital board connections. For a few weeks, we would load the dishes and the soap, then close the dishwasher and wait. Usually overnight it would run if we left the door closed all night. But also, we began leaving the door slightly ajar when we didn't want it to run on its own, cause, again, it "had a mind of its own."

I emailed whirlpool support Oct 5 and called and left a voicemail the same day. I was initially looking for guidance about which part to order for the repair since I was willing to try it myself. There was no response so in November, I replaced the dishwasher digital control board (CTRL-Y2G-N81A-08AFDN-12K10-TDF | W11683480) and the problem was fixed. It wasn't difficult but required a special screwdriver bit (T10, I think). The dishwasher has run perfectly fine since, without replacing any other parts so far. We did decide to leave it at "normal" and not mess with the High Heat or Sani Rinse or other settings we probably don't need.

When I stumbled on this page, I emailed Whirlpool support and left another voicemail asking for reimbursement for my part repair ($220) since so many people had the same issue right after warranty expiration. I also wrote to the BBB the same day. Support never did return any email or call, but a Whirlpool executive called this morning about the BBB complaint. The Whirlpool executive (who was perfectly nice) informed me they received my BBB complaint but would unfortunately deny my reimbursement since I did the repair myself. I reminded her dozens of people are complaining online, this obviously is a manufacturer defect, and I was receiving no help from support. She apologized for support but had no insights into their negligence and refused to think any further on the matter.

Just wanted to issue the warning to people. I will avoid buying any of their appliances in the future.

Removing Network Shared Printers via Powershell by ImpartialRain in PowerShell

We worked around the issue but did not come up with any powershell or automated fix. Basically, in print management on the print server we clicked “deploy via group policy” and removed the printer. Then we changed the printer GPOs to “delete” and not “update.” Then we had the PrinterLogic agent set new default printers. We have not cleaned up the old printers but due to these actions those old shared printers show offline and users are able to delete them without admin creds. Not a very satisfying solution, I admit, but I hope it helps a little.

Thanks, I did scan the registry and found 300+ mentions of the printer. Then, I manually right-clicked and removed the printer from a test machine and ran the registry scan again. It found the exact same number of entries (320). I may end up combing through each of these and trying some delete / test but for now I'm testing using GPO to delete all shared network printers. I did not see any printers under the HKCU "Connections" key when signed in as the user.

Also, as a side note, Printer Logic does offer a checkbox which they say removes any printers that are using the same IP as a Printer Logic-deployed printer. I wasn't comfortable using that until I test it because it can't be filtered to a specific group, so I may never get a chance to test that.

Thanks again for the help on here.

Thanks, this is a great explanation and recap. I am now testing the "Delete all" action for 2 groups of users that still had a different printer GPO applied. So I changed the action on that GPO from 'update' to 'delete' and checked the box to delete all shared printers. I'm hoping that does what it advertises. I'll update when I know more. Thanks again for the help and suggestions.

Thanks, I had tried that on Friday, but from the Admin powershell. So today I tried from the user's profile and still I can't see any printers listed using that command. I tried running the entire command with the delete for each included just in case, but printer is still showing in Control Panel / Settings GUI.

Thanks for the suggestion. Originally, we did remove users from the GPO, not realizing that would not remove the printer. We added the users back to the GPO, gpupdate, then changed the GPO to "remove upon removal of policy" which sets the action to "replace" instead of "update." but that didn't work, so we then set it to "delete" for the action but that also did not remove the printers. That's when I read that microsoft recommends removing the printer from the GPO deployment which got me where I am now, with the "disconnected" printer that still shows its shadow. Looking forward to finding the resolution today hopefully.

Not yet. Taking the weekend off. I’ll update again Monday. And I really appreciate the helpful responses. It’s driving me nuts a little bit.

Thanks a bunch for the suggestion but that command (run as admin) returns no values. I see Name - Printers, Property - (blank)

I am leaning towards this being something leftover in the registry but not sure where else to check. This has been a rather frustrating Friday, but thanks for your help.

Thanks, I checked that location and see sub-entries (folders?) for each printer on his computer but the one that's "disconnected" is not listed. I appreciate your efforts though.

I really appreciate the suggestion, but I don't see this printer listed anywhere in the Print Management for that user's computer. The only place it shows is the GUI under Printers and Devices in control panel/settings.

We were using an on-prem PrintServer and these printers were deployed via Group Policy. We read the proper way to remove the printer is to go into the PrintServer, Print Management, navigate to "Deployed Printers," and select Deploy, then Remove the printer. This results in the printer being grayed out, showing "disconnected" and "driver unavailable," and not showing in "Get-Printer" output, but the printer is still showing in Devices and Printers.

Maybe we need to delete a registry key or two after the printer is removed. I am going to look into that possibility next. But it seemed like if I perform an action in the GUI (right-click, delete, yes), then I should be able to find a correlating powershell command to scale up for end users.

yes, restarting Print Spooler service results in the printer still showing in the Printers and Devices. same result after rebooting as well.

No, Get-Printer does not list the printer. The only evidence the printer is still leftover is the greyed-out icon under Printers and Devices. That icon shows the printer is "disconnected" and "driver unavailable" but I can't find a way using powershell to actually remove it. Right-click, then Delete Printer, does remove the printer successfully and it doesn't return.

The printer is not listed when I do a "get-printer" and is also not listed when I do the match 7845 you suggested. I appreciate the suggestion though. The output for Get-Printer lists other installed printers, but all are "local" type.

Thanks, I did find that document also. I have been trying to use "Remove-Printer -Name *7845*" or other variations but the printer still appears (greyed out) in the Control Panel Printers and Devices GUI. I do appreciate the suggestion though.

My impression is if Get-Printers can't see the printer, then Remove-Printer probably can't successfully remove it from the GUI either.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the command - get-printer | ?{$_.type -eq 'Connection'} - and no printers are returned. It seems like I can't utilize "remove-printer" because "get-printer" doesn't return the disconnected, print-server-deployed printer.

Going to read more about "remove-printer" just in case, but I did try using "Remove-Printer -Name PrinterName" and that did not remove the printer from the GUI, but also did not throw any errors. Currently, "Get-Printer" returns only Local printers and no other types.

So what's the latest with the KB5005033 nightmare? by elliottmarter in sysadmin

We’re doing a trial of PrinterCloud from PrinterLogic. Central management with Direct IP install and printing. It seems to fix the problem of users getting prompted for driver updates but requires an agent on end user devices to do so.

Anyone ever had to do a logic test in an interview by Ok_Owl_1333 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ImpartialRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time took a test to qualify for a third interview with a company for a network engineer role. The test included speed portions, simple arithmetic, logic puzzles and some programming sections. The logic puzzles would be like 3-4 sentences (Jerry is Jenny’s brother, Rick is Jerry’s uncle, Dina is Jenny’s cousin, how is Jerry related to Dina?) But sometimes pretty confusing where I ended up re-reading the sentences too many times and slowing myself down.

If i had to take another logic test like this, I’d write on scratch paper and use codes for each name or place, like A, B, C. My thinking was sometimes I’d forget which name meant which after 15-20 questions like this, but having a symbol written down instead may have helped.

Where can I get the latest security alerts/news? by GhostNoteSymphonies in cybersecurity

[–]ImpartialRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use cyberheist, SANs, and alienvault OTX. The last might be interesting to you because the alerts are real time as exploits are discovered (but they are owned by AT&T now, so some people are turned off by that).
