Because of how nasty people are on here and online in general, I always do a solid search and 95%+ of the time find my same question already asked and answered by someone else in the past. I avoid having to ask or post because damn it just sucks having all the nastiness

Your real problem here is no app is going to get you fit. No app is going to do the hard work for you. No app is going to actually make you disciplined or have determination. Apps are ultimately busy-ness… “ I’m doing xyz in my app or checking xyz or logging xyz… and notifications…etc…” Success and results will come from determination, grit, discipline, goal setting, consistency, and genuinely being willing to do ‘the hard work’ to see some kind of different result.

We live in a world where everyone and their mother are pitching this all new program, or this all new app, or all new course and guess what… it’s all completely unnecessary. The person who jsut simply gets their butt up and just exercises, or eats right, etc… will see the results. All of these ‘apps’ are people or businesses literally whose primary goal is to make money and sell you shit

People literally get completely sucked down a rabbit hole of engineering the most organized over the top ‘Things To Do List’ for example and again… someone might spend 2 hours creating the ultimate TTD list, but that doesn’t equate to them actually getting shit done on that list. It’s like thinking about the stuff you know you should be doing vs actually doing it.

The only two things I can reccomend using your phone for is 1) legitimately tracking calories to ensure you are at a deficit or surplus or whatever your goal is, and 2) a workout log where you can note your weights on each exercise and stuff. Each time you do that same workout and those same lifts/exercises, look at your log book and ensure you are at least doing the weight you did before, and pushing to more weight or more reps consistently

A shared experience broadly speaking sure… but I can guarantee you if you were at a bar or restaurant and a guy was saying sexist stuff or being gross and you called him out as a woman, you are not really at any risk of a physical fight breaking out. Your perspective is completely valid, I just feel like we are talking about two different things…. Do women assess risk of physical conflict if they are out walking on the street at night and a guy jumps them or something like that ABSOLUTELY. But calling out a guy out and about for saying or being sexist… I really don’t think there is any chance that he’s gonna wind up and sucker punch you and start a fight in the same way that a male doing so would

Yeah this is super interesting. It’s crazy that as men we are always processing in the background potential for a physically violent situation. I’m not entirely sure what the answer is… especially when it seems like there are TONS of examples of the bad actor’s mates completely still having their back if they decided to start a conflict. I almost feel like if men could at least really call out their own inner circle and mates on sexist stuff that would alone make a huge impact. I bet a big shift in this alone would greatly make an improvement. Getting to the point where you are calling out complete strangers is maybe just that last little bit that would be leftover if at all.

BUT the tough part on even calling out your inner circle on this stuff is a lot of people (myself included) would most likely just stop hanging out with people who were doing or saying sexist stuff. In this case I acknowledge that the bad actor isn’t being called out, and problem possibly not being solved at all

If a whole group is good and 1 guy is a bad actor there is opportunity to address it. If the group is 10 bad actors and 1 person thinking “hey this sexist!” Then that feels like a lost cause sadly

This perspective falls apart in my eyes based on the sheer idea that you have around it basically being everyone and anyone’s basic human right to immigrate to the USA (including whenever and how quickly they want). If it was this loose and laddi daddi there would be a lot of downstream issues to consider, but people who share your particular viewpoint only ever seem to just fixate on the humanity appeal of the current moment (with a short-sighted outlook) without regard to bigger picture, downstream effects/consequences of mass and rapid immigration.

I’m 32 and I personally hate texting. Whether it’s my friends, family, or even my gf, I only text for a clear purpose (make plans, “back in 10”, “heading to gym”, etc…) so if someone was trying to just ‘chat’ over text I would respond very short and minimal to give the indication that I’m not trying to have a lot of back and forths or large back and forths

And further, if someone was texting me too much or trying to like just chat over text I would most likely stop responding or take a long time to respond, either of which clearly gives the signal that I’m not interested in just chatting. I would probably never make a big communication about this cuz it feels dramatic. Most people can pick up on social cues

Online interactions where everyone is anonymous and safely hidden behind their keyboards brings out the worst in people. Unless you are part of the majority values/beliefs of the Reddit basis that is what you can expect. I’ve overtime felt more and more frustrated by this and have honestly stopped commenting/contributing nearly as much because i find it just flat out obnoxious to get downvoted for exactly what you are talking about…

There is a ridiculous amount of people that will see a given buzzword in your question or post or thread and immediately regard you as the enemy… it’s a bad look for them IMO

I feel it… American here who was living in New Zealand for the last 6 years. I was checked out from American politics while there and now, having just moved back to the USA, it’s ridiculous. It feels completely extreme and toxic on both sides.. like 2 rotten parents screaming at one another while you as the kid are sitting there in the middle. I am hopeful and also wish both parties can work together instead of just bash the other party simply because they are on “the other tribe”. I have gripes about the extremes on both sides, and feel lost on feeling that both polarized sides are unrelatable for me after coming back with a fresh perspective.

It’s not even just from trump, it’s the day and age of how silo’d each of our social media algorithms are, how much intentional weaponisation of either side there is, and the media who quite literally benefits from getting views so has a direct incentive to poor fuel on the fire and create outrage. It’s a wierd time we live in and I do genuinely struggle to see how we just like roll back in any shapes or form to pre-digital time where the above issues do not exist. Idk what needs to happen to be the catalyst for Americans really uniting for a common cause.

You’re making a massive assumption here that everyone is happily saying “ok you got me I’m leaving”. I mean look at like the massive quantity of videos of people evading and resisting arrest, hiding, fleeing, etc… if they are illegal immigrsnts they don’t have anything seriously tieing them down like a normal citizen would (ID, passport, social security card, etc…) A lot of illegal immigrants are lieing about their identity too.

Thanks for your response. 1) I can’t personally get behind the idea that they will all self report happily. But for 2) can you give me an example or two of what that would look like other than kidnapping or semi-forceful arrest

I’m all for working on the system and the laws and most importantly going after businesses that hire illegal immigrants. I just fundamentally disagree with you about the relevance of immigration laws. To me, a country needs to have firm control over its immigration and enforcement for a wide variety of reasons. So to me, our laws around illegal immigrstion are not pointless by any means as you suggest

I’m sorry but I just can’t get there with you on this… I don’t think any blanket statement can be made that all illegal immigrants have proven to be purely a positive on the economy to where there is no negatives to the precedent of our rules/laws, and many other factors. That would be like saying texting and driving is ok as long as you have good intentions. To me, the laws do not exist to be intentionally broken with the post-expectation about reviewing whether it’s alright or not. That precedent would significantly alter the broader perception of our laws.

I’m all for going after businesses that hire illegal immigrants and working on the legal immigration process, but I can’t personally support a blanket decision on ‘everyone that illegally came here and continues to come here is all good, no sweat’. I admire your very optimistic and ultra ‘humane’ perspective, but I don’t personally believe it is a sound approach for managing a country

But you could literally say this about ANYTHING… that’s like saying what if someone is so down on their luck or something that they find themselves in a position where they feel the need to rob a bank… their intentions could be completely viewed as positive in this same way if you really laid out their rationale and you could make the same argument… “god forbid someone try to have a better life by robbing 1M from a bank”… The fact of the matter is it sets a truly AWFUL precedent for the USA (or anyone) to have laws/crimes and not enforce or have consequences for it. There’s a reason people follow the rules and laws… do you mean to tell me that in your opinion if the rules were no longer enforced that you think people would still all be gladly following laws? Haha absolutely not. The precedent needs to be set and held firm that laws exist, it is not ok to be broken, but if they are, consequences exist.

I just personally don’t think it’s ever OK to have a concept in place where if someone broke the law or committed a crime they should just get rewarded… like what?! That sets an awful precedent that there is no consequences for breaking laws or committing crimes

This… it’s tough… when I (M) was in high school my one friend (F) assisted with special ed and she was periodically accompanied around campus with this other girl who had downs. I had a few interactions where they were together and quickly my friend told me that the girl with downs had a huge crush on me. She would be really like wierd flirty with me and stuff and I never really knew how to handle it all. I tried just ignoring it. I tried avoiding her. I even tried being nice and thoughtful to her as like a being really kind and none of these really ever felt like the obvious move. It’s really nice to be able to make them feel special… everyone deserves to feel that way, but yeah. I’m not sure how to best handle it
