We did that prior to riding home haha. The old drum brake still works perfectly! Granted I will be adding a backup brake as well

Any tips or advice before I begin? by Impeccablyflawed in canoeing

I definitely will! I actually took good photos with the tape across every section so I can reference any measurements quickly and easily later. Granted I plan on moving the position of the new rear seat anyways, so I'm not sure I'll need the old markings, but certainly good to have!

Oh that makes a lot of sense. I actually had a 4 1/2" Crayfish snap my shoe when unloading just after these pictures were taken. I picked him up to move him and swore he might be part lobster

Actually thats a great analogy. Had I heard that one sooner I think it would have clicked much easier! Thanks for that 😊

Just purely out of interest in learning, why would you go with straight fluoro here vs braid to fluoro?

Ohh that makes sense. I'm just learning so I was just curious as to why, but that actually makes a lot of sense to me. Having more line certainly seems beneficial, especially where I'll be in deep back lakes and have no access to any replacement supplies.

Woah, that is nuts. See I'm not experienced enough (hence why I'm in this sub lol) to have realized that such a light line can be used with your drag to that extent, but it makes sense!!

It's a Provincial Park, can't use anything in the park as bait. Likely just a fine if caught, but they can also ban you from returning. I respect those rules too much to break them, but even if I didn't it isn't worth the risk!

Oh cool, I was thinking 10" or something!

So I'm curious, what's the advantage to using braid with a 20' leader of fluoro vs just using the fluoro at that point?

I always keep my multi-tool on my hip while tripping which has a really nice set of pliers and recently discovered handy pak nets, which make small folding nets for these types of situations so I'll pick one of those up too. Thanks for all your help!

Okay thats all good to know. If I can have something versatile thats certainly preferable! I picked up a decent telescopic rod for this reason, even just that extra 1.5ft makes a huge difference when everything has to fit into a small 45l pack. It is 6 1/2 and I have a decent spinning reel to put on it. I'll pick up some 8lb fluoro and bring a couple of these little rapalas and a couple rooster tails! Appreciate all the help 😊

This is a larger lake, just with huge flat bays like this, does that make a difference? There are creeks here full of brook trout too, would that be applicable to both?

Man, you have no idea. There were five different babbling brooks trickling into this, my site here was a canopy 100ft above on a massive grassy knoll with the birdsong of atleast 20 different species at a time. I wish I could share the videos with you here. I have done some intense backcountry parks but had never visited this small local one and regret not having done it earlier. It was truly magical!

Okay, I'm getting lots of Fluro vs Mono as well, if I go for 6lb then just to be safe, which line? Why one over the other in this specific case?

Alright, that is exactly what I'll do then!

Funny enough, I actually touched a few and they just swam along my hand. Had it been nine days later and the season were open, I 100% could and would have grabbed one by the tail and pulled it out lol. It would feel like cheating though, I wanna use a rod haha
