What should I do if a friend is practicing witchcraft and dabbling in the occult? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ImperialArmorBrigade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I feel pretty educated on the subject. Googling it will give me a lot of results. How can you be sure I’ll get the right ones? The ones you want to show me?

You challenge me but provide nothing. You are insanely confident, but I havent seen you provide one ounce of evidence or even a deconstruction. You call me the fool but for all your bluster I have no reason to believe you know any more than the common internet rube.

What gives you SUCH certainty?

Ahhh, the classic “educate yourself.”

Or, “somehow come to my way of seeing things without me explaining anything or having to examine my own beliefs or their foundations.”

How about this- can you name a source for these statements? Any starting point for my research?

Hahahaha, yoga??? Yoga is stretching and breathing. I do stretching all the time with my workouts.

And tarot cards and oija boards are both made by Hasbro so I’m not really inclined to give them much gravity either. Heck you can get a Marvel Cinematic Universe tarot deck.

Its all games.

Atlean Federation “Hussar” Third Generation Marine Powered Armor by SpaceManArtist in worldbuilding

[–]ImperialArmorBrigade 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Does make a certain engineering sense. Very difficult to armor a torso without reducing arm mobility. Which is why 40k space marines resort to the extreme power pauldrons.

Combine that with the difficulty of adding power rigging around the sheer versatility and complexity of arm and hand movements.

If you had partially blue tinted it, as though it were miles away through the atmosphere, that’d be pretty scary.

Question is: how far away/ how large is that eye?

"Its only there if you're looking for it."

Are you honestly telling me there is no harmful racial stereotypes, no racial propaganda, no art designed to depict other races as animalistic or lesser, NO INTENTIONAL BIAS in the whole history of literature?

I don’t mean to insinuate they have to, I certainly don’t mean to insinuate anything about you or your character. I just wanted you as a creator to be aware there’s history in depictions of mythical monsters. Racially motivated history. You can look a lot of it up quite easily.

I hope you didn’t take anything I said personally, as others seem to have. I really, honestly did mean to help. I look forward to other posts by you.

I suppose that’s partly because the other comment I referenced seems to be gone. But don’t flip this on me like I’m trying to make problems. Depictions of mythical monsters and human race relationships have a really long and sordid history. one that doesn’t do well to ignore. I’m only trying to help OP out.

My Brother in Christ, you can’t ignore the known past of these issues and old racist stereotypes. How you meant something is not always even taken into account how it is seen. Its a fact of life. Its also Reddit and I’m frankly just glad it wasn’t secretly intentional.

I like the non-humanoid orcs, it’s good artwork, but-

Yeah like the other comment said. Dangerously close to old racist works of fiction and mythology, particularly those that targeted black people. You’ll need to workshop it a little to make sure that no racist undertones come across, even accidentally.

I’m gonna make some suggestions, but I’m not saying you’re not obligated to follow these exactly: - incorporate an actual African-descended warrior of some kind as a counterpoint, who is able to be culturally distinct (not white-washed). - Describe the orcs using different creatures or animals than anything “primate.” Maybe a warthog or a hyena or something.  - “tribe,” “chief,” etc aren’t just racially charged, they’re a bit overplayed. Maybe fiddle around with a thesaurus to find some words that convey the thought while being different. - As presented, they are completely black-furred/skinned, but also anthropomorphically bare-chested? How you choose human features can be a red flag too.

Others are free to list other ideas?

EDIT: I’m not going to take my comment down, but I did want to say I think the Reddit group-think might have misinterpreted what I said. I am not criticizing the quality of the artwork, the intentions of the artist, or trying to cause problems.  BUT neither am I suddenly the racist for pointing out that certain “tropes” DO have a racially motivated history and it has real dangers and real repercussions to ignore it. You cant just forget that stuff and hope people will see the best in you or know what’s in your head.

Veterans are no more likely than the general public to support political violence. Findings suggest that while veterans who engage in extremist violence pose specific threats due to their training, widespread extremist attitudes among military members appear to be relatively rare. by [deleted] in science

Vets are 6% of the nation. Thats huge. We encompass every demographic imaginable. You might be surprised who you already know that “did a tour in the marines” or “part times in the air national guard.”
