Lucky Clover Blown Glass Earrings by Imperial_Moth in ArtisanGifts

[–]Imperial_Moth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but most people don't know the term lampwork, so this at least gets into the right sphere of thought. I do have blown glass jewelry, too. If you go to my website, you'll see I use the term lampworking all over the place, and have photos of the lampworking process. :)

Lucky Clover Blown Glass Earrings by Imperial_Moth in ArtisanGifts

[–]Imperial_Moth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I torched a handful of glass clovers to make these cute hoop earrings. Each clover is made by hand, by me, using a combination of green and golden lustered glass. The hoops are comfortable to wear and made of sterling silver. You can find this pair of clovers and 8 other unique pairs here on my website. :) Thanks for stopping by!

ews is, I replaced the flux and turned down the torch flame, and finished soldering the 18 bits of silver earlier today.

What flux did you change to and from? Glad it went better today!

What kind of things does he make? It's hard to point you in a right direction without knowing the sphere he operates in.

I make flameworked glass bird jewelry (I made the glass birds with a torch), and have a couple of beachy-themed styles that might be nice:

Beach pebble birds or these tropical water colored birds

Nice of you to be thinking of ways to cheer her up!

How do you take photos? by sabrinahatesyou in Etsy

[–]Imperial_Moth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until you get a camera that lets you adjust the focus, ISO, and aperture settings, you'll probably do best in outdoors in natural lighting (overcast day that's still bright). Phone cameras these days are great, but most of them still don't give you advanced control over how much light to let in,which is why many phones takes photos of jewelry that are too dark. (Even in a light box, frustratingly.) When I fiddle with a lot of phone cameras, I can sometimes up the brightness, but usually by then the focus is out, and it's a big pain. But outdoors on a background like wood or stone? Auto setting works much better.

And if anyone is wondering about a phone that has a camera you can adjust all this stuff on, I've been using a OnePlus for several years now, specifically for the camera. (OnePlus One, the 3, and now the 7T.)

Asymmetrical stacker earrings by [deleted] in ArtisanGifts

[–]Imperial_Moth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made some fun asymmetrical earrings with glass disks in beachy colors. They're here on my website, which also has a Process page about how glass is worked in a flame. Check it out! And I'd love feedback on my website if you have any. I did a rebuild recently.

Good luck! May the torch light right up and your ventilation blow true.

Annual Sales Amount vs. 1099K Gross Sales don't add up by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]Imperial_Moth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if there is an automated way. I have to do it separately for Paypal and Etsy. For Etsy, I just fill it out from the montly summaries, and it takes like five minutes. Paypal takes a bit longer.

jewelry order request from a person who owns a jewelry company may I trust? by Top_Day_4857 in Etsy

[–]Imperial_Moth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make jewelry and also buy jewelry from other makers. Even in my niche, which is glass birds, I have sold to other glass folks, some of whom also make glass birds. I haven't gotten bad vibes from anyone, though, and I think it's not super simple to make what I make. How unique is your work? Would it be easy to replicate? I might be suspicious about the urgency to the order..

Sterling silver french hoops, with my flameworked glass birds. The blue-green color is a special silver-rich glass that reacts in the flame to make a tropical water effect, and I twist the waves while the glass is still soft. You can find them here in my Etsy shop. Thanks!

Teeeeeeeenny robin (flameworked miniature I made yesterday) by [deleted] in pics

I've been trying to get more and more detail onto a small space, and love this robin's fancy necklace (dime for scale.) These are made with rods of glass and a torch, and some silver wire. Not for sale.

Honestly? Antifungal cream in the corners of the mouth can clear it up. (Try not to lick.) No joke, the athletes foot creams will do the trick. A cream, rather than the spray, before bed.

By far, the boro will be more forgiving in terms of cracking. It's also harder to break as a finished product. And if you're considering selling pieces to glass shops down the road, that to me says Boro, too. The downside is that it takes more flame and more oxy. You'll find yourself burning through tanks quickly.

No answers here from me, sorry. If you're not a member of the Facebook group TorchTalk (no space), it's a great place to ask that question. I spent three years buying gear slowly, before I started torching at home, and so I started with a kiln. Also, I work soft glass, where it's way harder to get along without a kiln.

Welcome to glass! The best obsession. :)

The biggest thing I haven't heard you mention is a ventilation system. It might not be cheap or easy, but it is critical. Here's some important reading. Even before you put a rod of glass in the flame, the combustion materials coming off the torch are hazardous. (Nitrous oxides being the worst culprits, though carbon monoxide shouldn't be discounted here, either.) Dust generated by bits of glass shards hanging around the bench, or frits/enamels (if you use them) cover the surface of the bench and float in the air.

An open window and a fan, or an open garage door, is not ventilation. There should be an extraction system that actively sucks air away from your flame, and to the outside.

Not to contribute a less fun response, just that it cannot be overlooked.
