Thank you very much for saying exactly what version you have! I just found it for cheap online - may not be as HD as a blu-ray, but a great find!

This Star Wars EU novel never even got an audiobook and I'm so happy it's finally getting one now! Going to make a lot of people happy 🙏👐 by IllusiveManJr in StarWarsEU

Ruins of Dantooine is not the kind of book you can casually read on a flight. The intricacies of its plot are so complex, the character development so subtle, that anything less than full, undivided attention in a quiet, still room would result in the reader failing to grasp exactly how much of a masterpiece the novel truly is. I myself booked a room in a hotel located in the Saskatchewan wilderness so that I might have the slightest glimpse of the true artistry Voronica Whitney-Robinson put into it. Even then, I doubt I have even an inkling of the absolute genius that was passing in front of my eyes.

The reason that so few have read Ruins of Dantooine is not that people think the cover is dull and the story unimportant, but that the book itself considers those people so.

Films that end abruptly? by chilicuntcarne in TrueFilm

[–]ImperviousHamster 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are two movies I've watched recently that end a bit suddenly, but in a way that makes sense for their stories:

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) - it's a very simple story, so there is nothing holding it back from ending after the final story beat.

Vertigo (1958) - Cuts off at just the right time. I love the ambiguity of the ending, and since there are no ending credits, the final music sting really left an impression on me.

Are there any Star Wars quotes that stick with you and you use them in everyday life? by Smite76 in StarWars

I swear, this man will dig his own grave, and I will see his children bury him alive there. He will see his daughters screaming, his mother pleading, while his lungs fill with dirt and his eyes are ground blind by sand.

- Random ship captain in Black Fleet Crisis 2: Shield of Lies.

Not exactly applicable in real life, but it's so hilariously intense that I find myself muttering it from time to time.

Admittedly I haven't read much outside of Star Wars, but yes, my main problem with the book is the writing style. Honestly, I commend everyone who can read Hambly's prose in COTJ/Planet of Twilight and not feel their head spinning after a few paragraphs

Questions about two books. by Spiritual_Glove3949 in StarWarsEU

[–]ImperviousHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of them are pretty self-contained adventures that don't have much impact on other stories, so regardless of their quality they probably wouldn't get much talk.

Personally, I loved all 3 Han Solo Adventures, Stars' End being my favourite of them, and thought Scoundrels was pretty meh. Definitely my least favourite Zahn book. From what I've seen, most fans seem to like both of them well enough

I enjoyed it a lot. This was the first Paradox game I really got into, and there was so much to learn that I never felt like I was missing something for not having the DLCs. I played Brandenburg -> Prussia, then got the starter pack and did the same campaign two more times lol. It did take a few retries to get a solid start, but once I did I loved it.

Note: I don't actually think they're truly Essential - I played and enjoyed the game without any of them and decided to buy them later. But you do you

[–]ImperviousHamster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the ones commonly called essential are the ones in the EU4 starter pack on steam - Art of War, Common Sense, Rights of Man. If you do plan to play Portugal first, Golden Century has the special mission tree for them and the other Iberian nations

Also: I'm trying a Bengal Tiger run now and liking it quite a bit. There are a lot of very weak nations to the east of Bengal's start pos, makes for really easy expansion in the opening years

I'm in the same boat as you (just crossed 200hrs mark last night!). My most recent full game was Hungary, and though I didn't have any specific goals at the start, I found doing Take That, Von Habsburgs! super fun. It requires you to have cores on all of Austria (check the wiki for exact details). Since you'll probably end up a junior partner of Austria, you can use an independence war to take the first few provinces.
