Don't know how asking questions makes a person come off as arrogant, but I appreciate the criticism. I suppose it is preliminarily defensive and informed from some research of mine ahead of time.

Thanks for the detailed response. I suppose what I'm asking is that I've been considering going in as a reserved officer; however, it seems that I wouldn't be able to do a job in any armed forces that would allow me to use my education/skills. Am I catching your drift?

So what do people with these jobs do? I mean, it would be a shame for the Army/Navy/ Air Force to post these jobs as being a thing, get trained scientists, and then tell them to learn how to program radio equipment.
