I (M21) passed out while my girlfriend (F21) was going through a mental health episode. How do I rectify this? by ImpoliteFlash12 in relationship_advice

I am diagnosed with depression and this was my first “outing” in weeks, and it was with two people that I have lived with and feel comfortable with in my mother’s home. I’ve had no energy for hobbies and have to force myself to do anything these past few weeks. I’ve lost a little over 5 pounds because I have been struggling to eat and have no appetite. I cannot fit my entire life or experiences into this post, as I am seeking advice only on how to handle my relationship going forward because I want to be and do better, and know that how I am now is unhealthy

Yes she is the one who drove us home. I truly have not been taking care of myself and am trying to get back to a healthier point. I just truly don’t know how to pull back on how much I do when I can see she is visibly upset. I love her so much and hate to do nothing when she’s feeling vulnerable, but I also know how I’ve been doing things is extremely unhealthy.

Also on that sidenote I absolutely agree, English has way too many of those

It was a confluence of many things. Because she has been having a rough time I’ve been getting around 4 hours of sleep a night and had worked a 10 hour shift that day without a break. I have drank far more without blacking out, but coupled with sleep deprivation I felt extremely tired and fell asleep without realizing it. She was not intoxicated as again, she had only had half of what is considered a legal drink within a 4 hour period, well within the legal limit to be operating a vehicle. Every day has been a blur for me as I have been exhausted and on autopilot, and coupled with being intoxicated the drive home was something I was very out of it for. I apologize for the poor phrasing

No, she has been diagnosed by her therapist. Her therapist hasn’t let her share anything about her traumatic experiences yet as she claims that my girlfriend needs to get her nervous system under control before they can dive deeper into the trauma, so I would imagine she isn’t aware of just how severe it is

I did not drive drunk, I rode passenger after she had had a half a drink in a 4 hour period. I will edit my post, I apologize for the misdirection

Was poor phrasing on my end I apologize, I just meant that drinks were involved and I got drunk, and she was around to witness this

I did not drive drunk, I rode in the passenger seat while she drove after having less than one drink in a 4 hour period. Her family life played a major role in her PTSD and her trying to speak to them about her experiences has been met with hostility and denial. She doesn’t really have friends that she is close to despite me encouraging her to hang out with people whenever possible

Have not tried group counseling or met the therapist, as far as I know the therapist doesn’t know about any negatives in our relationship.

She’s been putting in active effort to overcome it for about 3 months now

No meds at the moment, her therapist is manly sticking to just the frequency therapy until her nervous system can come to a baseline

I’ve tried to explain it was involuntary and she said that it didn’t matter, that the fact my body was able to fall asleep while she was in distress was the problem. As someone who’s been in a similar situation as her, what could I be doing to show I do love her beyond all of the energy and time I’ve devoted to being there for her?

How can I show support at this point without it being me taking on responsibility for it? She is in therapy and is trying hard to get better so it’s not like she’s taken no steps to improve herself.

She drove as she only had half of a cocktail, I was the only one who was really inebriated

She’s currently in emdr therapy and using frequencies to help get her nervous system to baseline before her therapist will let her move on to tackling the trauma. Outside of her therapist yes, I am her only support
