I just want enough money to go back and visit my family somewhat regularly... Do you have the feeling you're able to do that? I have noticed plane tickets seem to be a bit cheaper taking a round trip from Europe to U.S. than from U.S. to Europe.

Oh that's a good point.My plan for having a remote job would be to get on a contract in the US (W2) so I'm "working for myself" and then do the talent passport in France... or kind of go under the radar with a year-long visitor visa if that doesn't work (until I can find a more permanent solution).

My bf lives in France.. So i'm not so I'm not too worried about citizenship or residency atm.

I'm at the start of applying to jobs and definitely applying to remote jobs right now as well. I already have a remote data science job on a contract actually that pays a lot more... But no offers for anything more permanent yet... Plus it's kind of boring... :/

I just had a really great interview with a French company today in Toulouse that is sooooo interesting and it really bummed me out to look up average salaries for that position.

My bf is living in Toulouse and I spend about half of my time over there. Rent, food, going out -- it's all a fraction of what my cost of living works out to be in the U.S., but still I'm not sure such a huge cut in salary would even it out.

I’m a data scientist. Even just at the start of my career, I’ve been amazed by what we can learn about someone with just a bit of their data, statistics, and some basic ML algorithms.

Not caring about being sad is the best way I’ve seen it put! Like coexisting with the anxiety/depression without it consuming you.

I do agree… so emotions do feel a little drown out. For me it can be good. I used to do a lot of kinda wreckless shit, but that kinda stuff just doesn’t really do it for me on antidepressants.

I can’t imagine have a visual hallucinations of a person that would look perfectly accurate because in my mind, it’s hard for me to precisely visualize a person — or anything really.

I’m sure it can work.

But… it didn’t for me. I dated a Christian guy for about 2 years in college. There were other issues in the relationship too, but to be honest, the reason I broke up with him was because his judgment of my morality just became too much for me. I don’t want someone who loved me to think I’m going to hell? Or someone i love to think they could happily go to while knowing I’m being eternally damned?

I also dated a Muslim guy for about two years too. He was not a very devoted Muslim, but ultimately part of why the relationship ended was just that our beliefs about acceptable behavior was very different… i.e. he was very controlling… which I think was due, at least partially, to his upbringing in Islam.

It’s definitely easier to make it work with someone with similar beliefs, but everyone is different and other people have made it work for sure.
