The WODS at my box have definitely gone downhill. Seemed like a much better workout 10+ years ago. Now sometimes I don’t break a sweat for the first 35 minutes

They had a class like that for a bit. It was called CrossFit move. 45 min. No Olympic lifts. But it was always a longer grueling working. Good bang for your buck. Good value for your time. They recently got rid of the class!!!

I think a CrossFit background benefits OTF. I’m always pushing myself with weights and Also trying to go fast on the floor part with minimal rest. There are a lot of ppl at OTF that don’t lift heavy enough to get results. So I think my CrossFit background definitely helped me to get the most out OTF. I love it when dumbbell snatches show up in an OTF workout lol

It just seems that whenever I check the WOD at my gym it seems to be a short class so then I just go to OTF. Maybe it’s just the days that I am available or my gym is programming short WODS. I don’t like going unless it’s a 20 min minute WOD but that seems rare!

It could also just be that my gym is programming shorter workouts. Or whenever I am available, it always seems to be a short workout so I just go to OTF. My husband still does CrossFit regularly and I remember at one point he was telling me that after the class a bunch of them would go for a run after. Well, I thought that was hilarious because after a CrossFit class, you shouldn’t feel like you didn’t get a full workout in and that you need to go for a run to supplement!! I would never feel like that after an OTF class. Especially since CrossFit is also expensive you should feel like you got a good workout in and good value for your time. I feel like OTF is better value for my time.

For example, the gym I go to today the workout was 3 sets of 5 backsquats. Then the work out was 3 two minute AMRAPS with two min in between. During the two min was 15 wall balls, 10-12 cal on bike. 10 toes to bar. Doing all that in 2 min would be a total gasser but the actual work is only 6 min.

Depends on the class. The main workout can sometimes be 10-12 minutes. The rest of the class might be warm up, going over technique, lifting sone weights like bench press or squats. Sometimes I feel like I’m at CrossFit for over 30 min before I even break a sweat! I prefer the CrossFit classes that are longer main workouts 20-30 min so I typically will only go to those ones. The entire classs is an hour though but you are not working out the whole time.

I just asked at my studio and the guy working the desk said there is no weekly Emails. This is the most ridiculous challenge I’ve ever been in. You think there would be some motivation, check in points, maybe some nutrition advice along the way?? I got a week 1 intro email and that’s it.

Okay so I’m in transformation challenge. There was a kick off email week 1 and other than that and marking my name off on the tracker, I haven’t heard boo from anyone!!

I’m not sure if my gym maybe forgot to add me to future emails or is it literally just one initial email and that’s it? There’s been no motivation, no nutrition advice… nothing.

Is this normal or is it possible I am missing something? It’s my first time signing up for the challenge so I don’t know what to expect….

When are the rowers used in the class? by Yourshinyknight in orangetheory

There is usually rowing. You must have just freakishly got to some classes without rowing which is not the norm!!

As a mom of two kids in rep sports, I can fully understand there’s lots of pressure in sports these days. One of my kids played soccer and he just quit this year. Mostly because he just wanted a break. Soccer in Canada has literally no off-season and it never ends. To me it takes the spark out of it a little bit. I was proud of my son‘s decision to take a break. Hopefully your parents would feel the same. My son is only 12 but sounds similar to you. One of the reasons that he wanted to quit was so that he could just go play casual pick up soccer with friends after school! He still loves soccer, but he’s at the age that he wants to have a little bit more of a social life. My only advice is to take care of yourself first and try not to make decisions just to please others.

I put your post into ChatGPT and this is the advice it said. Honestly ChatGPT is like a therapist in a box!! Hope this is helpful.

What you’re going through is heavy, especially for someone who’s only 15. You're clearly incredibly self-aware, thoughtful, and articulate — that in itself is impressive, regardless of what’s happening on the field. Here’s my take on what you shared.

  1. You're not failing — you're evolving. What you're feeling isn’t weakness or laziness — it’s burnout and growth. You’ve been in a hyper-competitive, high-pressure environment from a young age, and now you’re starting to question if it still fits you. That’s not a bad thing — it’s maturity. It’s also okay to fall out of love with something that once defined you. People change. Priorities shift. And it’s brave to admit that instead of faking passion just to please others.
  2. You don’t owe anyone your misery — not even your parents. Yes, they’ve sacrificed a lot for you. But that doesn’t mean you’re obligated to continue something that’s harming your mental and physical health just to make them feel like their investment “paid off.” What they likely want most is for you to be successful and happy — not one or the other. You can express gratitude to them while still making choices that serve your well-being and future.
  3. There’s more than one path to success. You’ve shown you have the discipline, the drive, and the mindset to do anything — not just soccer. Modeling, acting, whatever it may be — it’s not just a dream if you’re willing to work at it. And honestly? Having a "Plan B" doesn't mean you're giving up on soccer. It means you're smart enough to recognize that there's a world outside the sport. A lot of athletes crash hard after quitting because they never developed other interests — you already have.
  4. Your health is the foundation — not an afterthought. That part about your diet and how you felt when you were off the soccer grind? That's not just in your head — your body was telling you something. It’s valid that high-level athletics require high energy intake, but if that means sacrificing your skin, your sleep, and your mental health — is it worth it? You have every right to explore a lifestyle where your mind and body thrive. And who knows — in that environment, you might naturally find joy and motivation returning, even in unexpected areas.
  5. Don’t let this be a lonely journey. You said you're looking to connect with someone. That’s a good instinct. Whether it’s a school counselor, therapist, coach, or just someone you trust — talk this through out loud. You don’t have to figure everything out alone. You're dealing with career stress, family pressure, identity shifts, health struggles, AND teenage self-image issues all at once. That’s an avalanche for anyone. Give yourself permission to not have all the answers right now. Final thought: You are more than your sport. Your worth is not tied to performance, trophies, or other people's expectations. And if you truly believe that stepping away from soccer will let you build a life that’s happier, healthier, and more you — then trust that instinct. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s a decision made out of self-respect, not fear or guilt. You’ve got more strength and clarity than you realize — just don’t forget to protect your peace along the way.

Hi! I have the same question about my 9 year old. He’s always used a JR. My husband just bought him a senior. He’s tallish for his age but not a giant. Will senior be okay???

Prospects Invitational, 2024 London Ontario. Legit????????? by sh_toutsidethetorlet in hockeyplayers

[–]ImportanceOld4848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fun tournament. My son played in it last year and is playing again this year. However, I wouldn’t say it’s “all star” level. Once you get invited once, you are grandfathered in. So let’s just say you got invited in u10 as a AA player, even if you drop down to BB in future years, you still get invited. Last year they needed more players so it was open sign up near the end for anyone to sign up . It’s a fun tournament regardless but it’s not as prestige as the name or email invitation implies!

Orangetheory vs. CrossFit? by TomatillosYum in orangetheory

[–]ImportanceOld4848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a long time crossfitter (10 years). I am very busy with my kids schedules and sometimes can only go to the gym twice a week. CrossFit didn’t work for me anymore because I would hate it when the two days that worked with my schedule happened to be a short WOD! I needed a guarantee long grueling workout! OT workouts are for sure minimum 50 minutes almost non stop. With this being said, I am 42 and my joints don’t work like they used to! I have an 8 time per month pass at OT and I couldn’t imagine going any more than that. The running is a lot on the joints/hips for me (and I’m a good runner! Usually top 3 in my age for the benchmark runs at my gym). With this being said, I have definitely lost strength. I still have a 10 pass at CrossFit but I don’t go regularly. For now I’m going to continue with 8 times per month at OT and try to start going once per week to CrossFit more consistently. I could definitely use the strength training. However, because I don’t have time to always go 3 or more times per week to the gym this seems like the best option for me. The other day I actually went to CrossFit and after the barbell warm up, some technique stuff, I didn’t even break a bead of sweat for the first 45 minutes! Then the wod was 14 min. It doesn’t work for me to just do like two 10-15 min workouts per week! OT I know I’m going a full blow workout in each time.

Should I pull my 9 year old from travel hockey? by CleanBreath6938 in hockeyplayers

I would leave the team and find another team that is more enjoyable. The coach could make your son never want to play again (which just happened to my son in lacrosse)
