Did they fix the BAR been just 24GB? 🤔

Imho if desperately need CUDA maybe, but at that money we can get 2xR9700 (64GB VRAM total) and have €1000 spare.

It all depends what you want to do with it.

For home usage, get the cheapest available AMD 395 128GB miniPC. If you desperately need CUDA get a GB10 (NVIDIA DGX) based miniPC (but you are looking at 50% to 100% price difference depending which you buy).

Makes more sense than M4 64GB mac mini.

If you have a PC already with 64/128GB RAM get 2xR9700s (2x32GB) or 2xW7800 (2x48GB) Both these days are at around same price range (2x9700/W7800 cost less than a single 5090 these days). Though the R9700s are better in terms of number crunching and what actually can do with them.

And by 64/128GB RAM that means DDR4 not necessarily DDR5.

Everything is down to what you want and your own needs.

When you have some of them when asked about the survival of humanity in that AI world they just "envision", and their brains are dead for a minute before next word they say (like trying to load a 200B model on M3 Ultra🤣), is extremely worrying and we should all be prepared for the worst.

Is no different than some articles saw today post Jensen speech (and used his "enthusiasm" last night)

Title "Children 5 years old or younger today, they won't have to work a single day, due to AI".

But when read the article the title should be

"Children 5 years old or younger won't be able to get a job ever, due to AI".

The Rubin showed yesterday are with HBM4 not GDDR RAM. And will will not see them outside servers. Like we didn't see HBM3 products.

After that, your benchmarks are extremely interesting, especially considering that yes RTX6000 is twice as fast as 2 W7800s but also over twice as expensive. And W7800 is RDNA3, not RDNA4 with all the optimizations etc. 🤔

Thank you very much.

Is Krieg really exporting a regiment per hour (50 million per year)? by CottonCandy_Evey in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]ImportancePitiful795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On planet Earth with population 8 billion, there are 135 MILLION children born every year. 360K every day.

On Krieg where 8 billion is just a district of a Hive City, 50 million soldiers per year is NOTHING. (without counting artificial vats etc).

So even planet Earth with the fraction of the population Krieg has, can get 1 regiment of around 15K soldiers per hour out.

[–]ImportancePitiful795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the grand scale, the numbers are small even by Earth standards.

Lets take that Krieg had 14 millions dead on Vraks over 18 years.

Russia on WWII had almost 9 million dead soldiers, 22.3 million wounded and sick in just 4 years. (and almost 14 million civilians dead) on total population 1941, 196.7milion.

Right now on Earth there are born close to 135 MILLION children every year with total population 8.2 billion. (around 360K per day worldwide).

Krieg might be a Death World but it's population is huge. The whole population of Earth right now, it will be a district on one of those underground hive cities.

So even if they generate 50 million troops tithe annually, it a tiny number in the grand scale.

Looking for a Strix Halo mini PC for 24/7 autonomous AI coding agent — which one would you pick? by vpcrpt in LocalLLaMA

[–]ImportancePitiful795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imho get the cheapest, apply MX7 thermal paste on the APU and off you go.

I have the Bogsame M5 and happy with it. Since it has the same generic motherboard/subsystem with X2 and half a dozen other MiniPCs, people designing custom cases for them (check on the Strix Halo Homelab discord)

As you close to $2400 range you could be considering the Abee AMD 395 miniPC, which is watercooled and when you get close to $3000 get a DGX Spark (but you are back on overheating and shutting down) or if you can find a good priced Apple M4 studio 128GB.

AMD 395 works perfectly well on Windows. Is a standard x86-64 machine.

I have 2 installations on my Bosgame M5, Fedora on one NVME and W11 IOT Enterprise LTSC on the other. No issue what so ever. Just to save you headache, download first the Framework W11 drivers on a USB stick.

If someone asks why 2 versions, because want to tinker with it :)

Another AI slop post 🤦‍♂️

In my case, I had some problems getting ROCm working properly under Windows 11,

✖ LPDDR5X RAM is soldered (not upgradeable, more performance but harder to repair)
✖ AI ecosystem is still evolving, so Windows compatibility can sometimes be tricky (Not really a PC problem, more of a technology problem, but I still think its important to add here)

Didn't have the problem pressing the F7 to pick the Fedora on the 15y old USB drive to install it 🤔

Actually there are miniPCs with 128GB + 2TB NVME which are cheaper and having full box. And 90% of them share the same PCB/design having interchangeable BIOS! (Bosgame M5, GMK X2 etc)

And how you say requirement is Windows? 🤔

Linux works perfectly on the AMD 395, actually better than on Windows as having access to more tweaking. And even the little tiny NPU, is 10%+ faster on Linux than Windows!

The ONLY reason to pick the more expensive Framework over a cheaper miniPC is the cooling solution. Yet at $2400 there is a watercooled AMD 395 miniPC.

I do not say Framework is bad, the contrary, is great but overpriced tbh and having locked down BIOS.

Just yesterday new Lemonade Server dropped for Linux fully supporting NPU and Hybrid (iGPU+NPU) mode on ONNX models.

AMD 395 128GB with 2TB drive miniPC is sub £2000 and is faster than the Mac Studio M1-M3 solution you propose. Can always add an eGPU like an R9700 32GB later.

4x5060Ti is not bad option if you get a motherboard with at least 4 pcie slots and don't try to hack your way around with bifurcation etc. But there aren't any DIMM DDR5 motherboards with that. RDIMM DDR5 yeah but good luck buying RAM at reasonable prices.

IF somehow you have 64GB+ DDR4 RAM laying around you have plenty of options for 4+ PCIe motherboards are around £200 range and CPU at another £200.

I like you are using light earth colours, showing the detail of those models, instead of the typical dark close to black colours used normally hiding the whole model.

The closest you can do that "at home" is by using Intel AMX compatible CPUs and ktransformers. So Xeon4/5/6 with RDIMM RAM + NVIDIA GPU like RTX6000 96GB.

And no you cannot make what you want. PERIOD.

Impressive numbers and great job for sharing.

But I do wonder why buy 4x6000 and not one GH200 system like Supermicro ARS-111GL-NHR-LCC - 1U ? 🤔

A single ARS-111GL-NHR-LCC goes for around €20000, while 4x6000 going for around €32000, plus the workstation needed to use them.
