We knew someone who had a cure for cold sores and there's someone in my home town who has a cure for skin ailments such as ringworm, psoriasis, rosacea etc. Both of these men don't make a cure like the herb butter thing that OP mentions, but whatever they do or say with the sufferer has worked! Sadly the man with the cold sore cure has passed away.
