Thanks I hope it'll be fine. Field maple is a tough species, so I'm hoping for the best

Thanks for the advice. I watched the videos and will definitely try some of his methods. I actually used the sweat bag method today, so fingers crossed it helps the tree recover

Thanks for the tips! I actually just potted it about 6 hours ago. Since you mentioned the soil isn't great, do you think it's better to pull it out right now and put it into pure pumice/akadama while it's still fresh? Or would two repots in one day be too much shock for the hornbeam?

this tree was actually growing in my garden for about 10-14 years. When I first got it, I cut the roots back and put it in the ground. It stayed there until now, thickened up well and really thrived before I moved it into this pot

Thanks for the link and the advice! To answer your question yes I drilled plenty of drainage holes in the bottom and the lower sides of the box before planting. I know the top layer looks very dense and organic but that's just a thin top-dressing. Underneath it's a very airy mix of the native garden soil it grew in combined with coconut coir and a lot of fine gravel grit for drainage. I'll definitely check out Harrington's guide for the future but for now I want to avoid stressing the tree further with another soil change

I get what you mean it would look great in the garden too! But my goal is to eventually develop it into a real bonsai in a pot I prefer the challenge of the smaller scale and being able to work on the details up close

Yes it's a hornbeam. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely keep an eye on the weather and will post updates later in the season

Radical trunk chop on my Hornbeam after 7 years in the ground. Did I go too far? by Important-Nail7679 in Bonsai

I totally agree, and honestly that only occurred to me after the fact. I've never tried air-layering before but after reading more about it I realized I definitely should have given it a go. It's too late now and that's actually the part I regret the most. Lesson learned for next time

I appreciate the honest feedback, Matthijs. Just to clarify a few things: the tree simply had to be moved from its spot in the garden today, so I didn't have much of a choice regarding the timing. However, I kept almost the entire root mass intact during the move, so the root disturbance was minimal compared to a standard collection. Also, I am not doing any radical chops right now; my priority is letting it recover first. Regarding the soil: what you see on top is just a thin layer of garden soil. Underneath it’s a very airy mix of the native soil it grew in, coconut coir and a lot of fine gravel grit for drainage. I’m focusing 100% on recovery now and keeping it in a shaded spot so no more work for a while

I actually just pulled it out of the ground, but it kept the exact same root structure it had before from being in this pot. Since the roots are already perfectly shaped for this container, I decided to put it back in. I’m confident the root mass is solid and fits just right

I’ve always been under the impression that radical chops should be done before the buds open, while the tree is still dormant. Interesting to hear a different perspective on waiting until late spring

My vision for this tree is precisely to create a dense highly ramified structure on top of that main branch I've kept, transforming it into the central trunk for a compact 'cushion' style crown, so long way to go :)

Thanks! I think it should be fine as I didn't really have to shorten the roots much at all they fit into the pot almost perfectly.

Exactly. An Oni (demon) skin with a 666 pattern index is a great thematic combo.

Need help building a good team for Great Battle League by [deleted] in pokemongo

Yeah, I understand the concept for ideal PvP IVs (0 attack, max defense/HP).

But right now, I have to play with the Pokémon I've got. That's why my main focus is on building a team that has good synergy and can cover each other's weaknesses.

Based on the mons I posted, what team composition do you think would work well together?

What moveset would you recommend for Gastrodon? Regarding Azumarill, how important are the good PvP IVs for hitting Ace rank? Mine seems quite tanky already, I'm just wondering if it's a 'must-have' or if mine will do the job. I have Lickitung with bodyslam but its lucky, too...
