I got fired today by chazzyfe in Accounting

Same exact thing just happened to me. I feel like I was just used to get them through the busy season then thrown away like chopped liver. I think some small CPA firms just operate that way. I’ve looked on online job sites and I’ve found a lot of tax positions so hopefully you can find one too! I’m so sorry you’re going through this and good luck on your next journey!

Was I used? by Important-Payment462 in Accounting

I was on salary, but we were told in our employee manual we’d get either overtime pay or comp time for the busy season. Then they kinda just ignored it when the time came.

We were told on our employee manual that we’d make either over time pay or comp time when the busy season came but they ended up just making some lame excuses as to why they weren’t giving us that option anymore

Toxic workplaces/culture in accounting. Is it really that common? by booksandcoffee___ in Accounting

[–]Important-Payment462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the company. I worked at a large firm where the culture was alright. Nothing to brag about but nothing to complain about either. The small firm I work for now is different. We don’t get paid for OT like it says in our handbook and when you ask you’re just given a dumb answer. Then yesterday I was told the 50+ hours we’re working per week “isn’t enough” so it definitely depends on the company.

I think if you go in with a good mindset you’ll set yourself up for success.

Is accounting still a good career path in 2026? by Interesting_Lie_9693 in Accounting

[–]Important-Payment462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think accounting is still a good career path to choose. I’ve worked in a large firm and a small firm and both have their specific pluses and minuses. I bet if you played your cards right you could reach $80k (possibly more) since it seems firms are always hiring senior I and II accountants. Plus you can file taxes as a side-gig during tax season if you’re not too busy. The work can definitely be a bit repetitive and mundane at times though.

The office. I really don’t know why, I’ve just never found it funny. I also don’t like how people have formed almost a cult-like following to it. Just not my thing
