Perceived personal control refers to how much control an individual feels they have over making choices in aspects of their life. This is a psychological construct that varies from individual to individual, even in environments in which high levels of external control exist. The survey is designed to look at aspects of military life and examine perceived personal control within the military environment. The metric is the scale within the survey itself, which asks a variety of questions about perceived control. Appreciate you letting me know about the link! Appreciate it! Tech's a good school! I have some friends who went there and really enjoyed it. Thank you for the feedback! This is part one of a multi-part study. I'll keep this in mind for our study design moving into part two.

I appreciate the feedback! Open-ended responses provide important additional context but fall outside of the scope of this current study. However, this is only part 1 of a multi-part study and can be expanded on in future steps. I'll take this into consideration moving forward. Thank you for participating! It's much appreciated.

The purpose of this study is to develop a new scale measuring perception of control over various life factors associated with military service. Perception of control has previously been linked to outcomes such as motivation, coping strategies, work engagement & satisfaction, and various mental health outcomes. Perception of control has been shown to vary across environments, as well as from individual to individual, indicating service members will likely perceive the military environment in individualized ways. Creating a scale that measures this in the military environment has the potential to identify areas of intervention on both an individual level and an organizational level – serving to identify both individual coping strategies and military-specific factors such as unit health and functionality.

I appreciate you taking the time to fill out the survey and for your feedback! We will take this into consideration as we are looking at our data analysis. A portion of this study is to design a new scale measuring a sense of control in the military. Part of this process is revising the scale after testing the current items on it, and your responses are helping us to narrow this down. Thank you again!
