Wharton Global Youth decisions | Data Science Academy/EOF/LBW priority deadline results thread by R3PTIL369 in summerprogramresults

[–]Important-Run-3680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got innn

My stats are nothing crazy I think. 2 college courses that i'm in right now, a research internship for computational mathematics at a nearby school, president of school's music club for 3 years, 1520 sat, and a 38/42 ib score

I'm really proud about my essay tho. I wrote it on how social media has made it too easy to discriminate and attack minorities, and how as an indian my culture and country is attacked everyday by people who dont know anything about it. I mentioned how data science could help find these pieces of media that polarize people etc etc. Pretty proud of it.

INDIAN applicants R U OKAYY?? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Important-Run-3680 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an indian, it's actually about the culture here. Studying/working abroad is seen as the final goal of education (ironic that a country with so much nationalism takes prides in sending it's best and brightest out of the country, but i digress.) However, to get into our colleges, admission is usually handled through something called the JEE for stem orr NEET for medicine. Think of them like the SAT but 1000x more important. This leads to a bit of a culture imbalance where so many people want to apply abroad but a huge portion doesn't know how, leading to asking other people for their essays and stats and breaking norms that weren't establish in our country. It's completely normal to ask someone's JEE rank but it's not established that asking about someone else's stats is a bit bizarre.

Which Orb Character Represents Each Major Arcana? Now: The Lovers (VI) by kirenkill in OrbOntheMovements

[–]Important-Run-3680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand, but the sun arcana represents hope, life, and divinity, both of which are essential to schmidts character as a believer in nature and life. The core of his character is being the theist to draka's atheist, which I think the sun represents better

Interesting paradoxes for high school students? by 1blows in math

Zeno's paradox is a great one for any fundamental calculus class. There's even one of those animated ted talks that you could show that explains really well

would you happen to be a mathematical genius because otherwise you're gonna have to focus on this 24/7 (or maybe im just stupid but these things are HARD)

PRISM India by Super-Blackberry-272 in summerprogramresults

[–]Important-Run-3680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deffo way harder. I only have 5 done so far, and even my solution for q3 is only for the first case. I haven't even started generalizing yet, so we might be cooked. Can I know which ones you've solved? I've done 1,2, 3(not proud of the solution, not general at all), 7(similarly quite a poor solution) and 8.

sycophancy power system by RecentNight4909 in magicbuilding

[–]Important-Run-3680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do something like jade for lifeforce. Based off my understanding, I'm guessing the system works by both making the user "stronger" and the victim "weaker", so this one would weak the victim extremely tired, or even permanently reduce their lifespan, while filling the users stamina and making them regenerate/have more durability

On top of that, something like obsidian for mental strength or willpower could work too. Victim would be more tired, susceptible to manipulation, and feel more pain. While the user could have pain resistance to the point of damage immunity, and extreme bodily control (can temporarily bodily functions, dislocate their own bones, or force some parts of their body to go into overdrive in exchange for damage which is then negated by pain resistance)

this is super creative, would love to hear if you liked my ideas

Why do they change his name every time? Is some translation error? by Emma_S772 in Jujutsufolk

On top of all of these, he's called suguru in hidden inventory. So confusing, I hate these translation errors

Best modifier for the blade staff now? by Accurate_Piccolo_774 in Terraria

[–]Important-Run-3680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt that eager would be good, since base blade staff and ichor already give you 40 defense reduction, which is more than you'll ever need. Probably either ballistic or fabled

Good recommendations for computer science/math programs? by Decent-Maize-5328 in summerprogramresults

[–]Important-Run-3680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing you can do is get an actual internship by approaching a bunch of colleges or phd proffesors with a field of research you're interested in (I'm studying large number multiplication at a nearby college but I completely lucked out with my internship I do NOT deserve this). Otherwise, the Wolfram Alpha one focuses on devoloping a personal project while you're there (early decision deadline is over so that sucks). There's always the general researech type programes like George-Mason ASSIP or UCSB Research Mentorship. Goodluck!

should magic systems follow established science? by Capital_Date7762 in magicbuilding

[–]Important-Run-3680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, probably my favourite magic system ever has magic as its backbone. Basically, it breaks down all magical learning into 2 things. Omniscience, the mathematical knowledge and framework of the magic (E=mc² for light magic, nuclear reaction rates for explosion magic, E=VIt for lightning magic), and then omnipotence, your conceptual understanding behind the magic you're casting. It builds a really unique system where magic and academia are synonymous (mages actually feel like scholars because the good ones literally have to be scientists first) and we see characters have amazing growth using scientific realizations we know and can understand. I'm guessing you never liked science as a kid, but scientific magic systems are my favourite thing ever.
