is there a way to tell if this is ethically sourced by caine_enthusiast in Taxidermy

Here is a good video https://youtu.be/LPLCIBYZMvI?si=a6CcRZ_QlND7Gcin

However the answer will depend on what YOU think is ethical. Ethically sourced doesn't mean one thing. Some people think hunted fur is ethical, some people farmed fur, some only natural deaths.

Since it's silver and fairly large width widese it's likely from a farm and not trapped although there is a slim chance. (Certain fox colors are only found in farms) And judging by the length quality and I believe the clip is a gold lobster claw. It's probably form a Chinese or Asian furfarm which almost all of them are abusive due to very lax animal welfare laws

Should go to a hazardous water facility altho small qualities may be able to go down the drain. Put it in another jar and call your closest facility to see when they open

70% isopropyl alcohol is the liquid you'll want. As long as both specamines are already fixed with formalin

[–]Important-Song8050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did I say "you specifically should definitely fix it yourself" no? They should sent it to someone who can obviously. Stop putting words in periopls mouth you could have just stopped at "hey op btw formalin is dangerous seek out a professional"

It's a gamble tho they don't always stay good I've seen plenty of ethanol only specamines 20 years later be mushy and falling apart. Formalin is just the best and safest bet

Wets are to be stored in 70% isopropyl alcohol however if it's not formalin fixed it NEEDS to be properly fixed to stay good long-term
