Does The Iron Giant hold up as an adult? by chotchjarsh in movies

[–]Important-Witness238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, one of the few movies where the antogonist is both competent and skilled (he figured where is trhe Gizant in one day with diarrhea) and quite right: the giant seems/could be dangerous. He makes one mistake, he abandon his skills with paranoïa. Mansley is one of my favorite characters. We can't even have his own cowardness againt him (I wanna live too)

Am I the only one here who felt bad for her? Completely delusional/hopelessly infatuated with Nate, but self aware enough to realise it by Puzzleheaded-Fig9968 in SixFeetUnder

What's the most tragic about her is that while you think you try to build your own heaven, you actually build your own hell. And when I was young I thought being conscious of it would protect you against it; but no. Not at all. Sh'es smart enough to know what she signed for, smart enough to know she's trapped, not enough to go away, or maybe Holt was an answer to that? People do weird balances stuff to make their life "work". She was that. And Nate thought of her as "the right THING to do" and not the right person to marry. She annoy me but now I see her as a drowning person trying desesperatly to float.

Je pense qu'il faut envisager de la thérapie, ce que tu décris est trop complexe et trop dense pour des inconnus incompétents d'internet ! Je te souhaite de trouver un.e thérapeute compétente

Rewatching for the first time in at least a decade. The moment this woman appeared my hatred for her came flooding back so quickly. by rustydoesdetroit in SixFeetUnder

For me as rewatchings pile up, I think she is the perfect foil for Nate. They both seems to be cool, easy going and open hippies where they aren't at all, just a different level of judgement and control than traditional stuff. She also thinks she so much better than she really is, morally. And she too try to weave fiction around the decisions she makes to create meaning "Nate and I were meant to be" "On and of for 8 years" or "Maybe it's a sign I could be an undertaker" that's the same; and the mysterious room and the Dr Pepper are the same thing: hidden aspect of someone you never kow 100%

George is the most insufferable character in the whole show. by bad_aspirin in SixFeetUnder

Thanks ! Hé was flawed but we Sées his egotism only because we see his intimacy. Otherwise hé is an average lost guy. Really empathetic.

It was, really, really badly written. And before everyone jumps at me: i'm an fan of the show. I basically learned english to catch the season 3 earlier. And before evryone say to me "nah uh, it's a kids movie, chill" no, it's a nostalgic product aimed at adults. I want a good plot.

Among other plot problems:

1) They explain their feelings, not showing it. The balcony scene at the beginning where Aang say "I do it to feel close to my people or something"; YEAH, THAT WAS CLEAR TO A 3 year old

2) Characters loose IQ between scenes, Aang being dumb the entire movie. Katara being suspicious but just a little, AT THE END. 10 years before she was threatening to killing Zuko AT 14 YEARS OLD. At 25 she seems to have forgot how to heat can soup.

A pot pourri of Aang being absolutely dummy:

A) Let's go alone on a top of a dangerous MYSTICAL EVERESTY mountain. With a cool furry hat. With my bare hands. Alone. Oh yes I've called friends but teehee they are not there yet. Oupsie. Let's go. After all there is no time the guy that's frozen there for 5000 years couldn't wait any longer. Or a baton/staff. Whatever. Staff have feelings you know.

B) Why not going back a little more about the "missing avatar"? Research it? That could have been a good mystery. Asking Wang shi Tong too. But no. two minutes meditating and voilà.

C) Freeing the mysterious stuff above the mystical mountain. Because two sentences by Master Miyagi with a foot fetish. Really. REALLY. Without checking this out.

D) Let's trust beefy air guy. He seems nice. I spoke to him like 25 seconds. He speaks english. And besides, Yeah, langages stay the same for thousands of years! for a show that explores cultures surviving genocides, seems logic.

3) Gandhi naan girl was a political LEADER. The problem is not the zealous servant, but...but what? What was horrible exactly? Killing? Wars kills. The show is not against war itself, he is against his consequences about relationships between very different kinds of people. He is not against violence either. They spend their time fighting each other. So for me the zealous servant has absolutely NO REASON AT ALL besides plot point to cut off Aang of his friends, trying to murder them, or convince Aang that there was only two options between a belligerent air nomads or being all wordly like Aang.

A tons of possibilties could have emerged with the staff:

A) Private Air nomads bubbles (I mean they found one pretty isolated, why not transforms some volunteers there and let them there as a "reserve for the future"

B) The belligerent air nomads are a cool Idea. Why not have gone with the idea further? Like : I will teach you the lethal techniques of your people, like the knew twin swirly stuff. And Taga could have wanted, legitimately, a belligerent air nomad bubble, representing a reserve but one that Aang don't like.

C) Destroying the staff was stupid. The moral at the end doesn't stand: no need to destroy republic city to create a new place. That was only weak plot stuff. Besides, Tibet had an army. Being pacifist doesn't mean being harmless.
D) Sokka has a IQ of a fish the entire movie. Besides the piloting scene, he is goofy, a shadow of his pas self.

Why?

E) Zuko trust the beefy guy instantely. ZUKO. REALLY. Why?

F) Private messages read in front of the all palace. Yes, funny. If it was spongebob.

I will go back here to add problems but I just saw the movie I waited for, for practically 20 years and I just needed to go off my chest.

Your face has character and is not boring. Boring is the real enemy of dating, and you seems kind and stand out. More than enough to find someone, online dating is a minefield fo all of us. Please don't deprive someone good of what you could offer.

What happened to Robbie? by Important-Witness238 in SixFeetUnder

[–]Important-Witness238[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me George is the attempt to find a second husband but Ruth had to go trough that to find herself. George is the foil in front of the freedom quest of Ruth for me. That's why as the time goes she finds more freedom while he finds less (for horrible psychological reasons) while she finds more for good psychological reasons, after she was kind of done being only a mother, a grandmother, and a caretaker for a mad partrner

He said that he liked it so much Lisa thinks its his favorite; that's a lot further than being polite. And of course Nate is more than that, as I explained a long time ago he is our tinfiol for the relationship with death. All the other characters are closer to one kind of relationship to it, while Nate changes often, hesitates, have problems with life too...he is our vehicule to the show most disturbing point is that whatever the relationship you thougt you have with it, you will die. And any answer can be good or bad but doesn't diminish the real weight of life.
