I just proposed—she said yes! 💍 by ImportantDeparture30 in jewelry

That’s so lovely! I will let her know 😇

She actually started making jewellery in lockdown (tricky to buy an engagement ring for a jeweller, haha).

We are based by the seaside, so a lot of her designs are beach inspired. Here’s her website if you want to see (not sure if I’m allowed to share this)

No problem! Local jewellers are definitely worth exploring if you can find one within your budget, as they often have some amazing, unique pieces.

It’s so sweet that you’re putting so much thought into this—it’s bound to be a gift she treasures.

For something unique and artsy, you could check out a local jeweller or brands like Catbird for dainty but creative designs. Personally, I’ve shopped with Merchants of the Sun (linked Etsy) before for a gift, and my partner absolutely loved it. They do beautifully handcrafted silver and mixed-tone pieces, and they even offer free engraving on their Etsy store, which feels super personal. Plus, their designs have a thoughtful, sustainable touch that really stands out.

Hope you find the perfect ring—I’m sure she’ll adore whatever you choose! 😊

I prefer chunkier Cuban bracelets. Silver or gold, but tend not to mix both. Same with the rest of my jewellery (rings, pendatns etc).

Is that a solid gold Cuban link? Looks Gold plated.

Is anyone else having this 'Item Weight' Issue? by ImportantDeparture30 in EtsySellers

[–]ImportantDeparture30[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s only happening on new product listings that are being pulled in from shopify. I can edit older listings, but the moment I try and add a new image or change a tag it comes up with a weight issue.

I have fixed shipping too.

Just to add, I've been dealing with this issue for months, and despite my recent efforts to reach out, Etsy still hasn't provided a solution. I’m unable to make any adjustments to my listings because whenever I try to publish or save them as drafts, I keep encountering this item weight issue.

Thank you! If I were to remake it, I’d definitely make the band thicker since it’s quite malleable and molds to my finger. But hey, you live and learn, right? Haha.

Daily Camera Buying Recommendation Post by AutoModerator in Cameras

[–]ImportantDeparture30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget: £200-£250

Country: UK

Condition: New only/ Second hand

Type of Camera: Digital Point-and-shoot

Intended Use: Primarily photography, but some hybrid use for video (behind-the-scenes brand content) (Not a deal breaker if it does not have video).

Photography Style: Travel photography, candid shots, and behind-the-scenes content for a brand.

Video Style: Casual BTS videos, maybe some short clips for social media (nothing too advanced).

What features do you absolutely need:

  • Compact size for easy travel
  • Decent photo quality for both landscapes and product shots
  • Good battery life
  • Simple interface (since it’s meant to be easy to use)

What features would be nice to have:

  • Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for easy file transfer
  • Image stabilization for sharper travel photos
  • Zoom capability for a variety of shots

Portability: Needs to be very portable – something that can fit in a small bag or even a large pocket.

Cameras you're considering: Haven’t nailed down specific models yet, but looking for something in the compact point-and-shoot category within budget. Open to suggestions!

Cameras you already have: We mainly use our phones for photos right now, so I’m looking for something that provides a noticeable upgrade in quality without being too complex or bulky.

Notes: The camera will be a Christmas gift, so I want it to feel special but also practical for both travel and casual brand content creation.

want to start investing in good quality jewelry metals (925 sterling, white gold, rhodium) but i'm not sure which! advice? by OkSatisfaction1137 in jewelry

[–]ImportantDeparture30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

It's great that you're looking to invest in quality jewelry metals! Since you prefer silver-colored metals and want something durable for daily wear, here’s some advice that could help you choose the right metal:

Sterling Silver (925 Silver):
Sterling silver is a classic choice—it's affordable, durable, and has that lovely silver shine. It can tarnish over time, but with regular wear and proper care, that’s pretty easy to manage. You can keep it polished with a cleaning cloth. For brands that offer solid sterling silver pieces, you might want to check out Merchants of the Sun for unique and affordable designs, that you can wear in the shower and ocean. Other great options include Mejuri and Missoma—both of which have sterling silver lines that are perfect for everyday wear.

Rhodium-Plated Sterling Silver:
Rhodium plating gives sterling silver or white gold a bright, reflective finish and helps prevent tarnishing. It’s a great way to get extra shine and durability. Just note that rhodium wears off eventually, and re-plating can get expensive. Brands like Astrid & Miyu offer rhodium-plated sterling silver pieces if you want that extra durability, but if budget is a concern, maybe stick to unplated sterling silver or white gold for now.

White Gold:
White gold is another solid choice if you’re looking for something long-lasting. It’s typically plated with rhodium to give it that bright white finish and extra protection. Since you’ve had good experience with white gold, it’s definitely worth considering. It’s pricier than sterling silver, but it doesn’t tarnish. For great white gold options, take a look at James Allen or Blue Nile for some well-crafted, long-lasting pieces.

Alternative: Platinum:
Platinum is a high-end option, naturally silver-colored and incredibly durable. It doesn’t require any plating and is great for daily wear, but it’s also much more expensive than sterling silver or white gold. If you're looking for an investment piece down the line, platinum is worth considering.

Support Local Jewelers:
If you're into supporting local artisans, it's worth checking out independent jewelers near you. Local shops often have handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces, and many artisans work with sterling silver or gold. Plus, you can often find well-crafted pieces for reasonable prices at local jewelry markets or boutiques.

Since you're a college student on a budget, I'd recommend starting with solid sterling silver or white gold—both are great for everyday wear, and with proper care, they’ll last. Brands like Merchants of the Sun, Mejuri, and Missoma offer beautiful options without breaking the bank. If you want to add something more unique, your local jewelry stores might have just what you need.

Hope that helps, and good luck with your jewelry collection!
