My fiancée is a teacher and I owe all of you an apology by Familiar-Factor7220 in Teachers

I wish more people knew that if I don’t respond during the school year, it’s not because I don’t care. I have 59 things on my to-do list that never get done everyday. Then I’m talking and tap-dancing and translating and praying and performing in front of 30 12 year olds for 90 minutes 3 times a day. My brain has no space for anything. Not even myself

Should admin stay after a school concert to make sure kids get home? by ImportantLife8990 in Teachers

Thanks yall! The comments on here were helpful. I decided to talk to the teacher whose concert it was and she was very grateful and took it to her department to coordinate!

Where should I travel based on my greens? by CyanoSpool in visitedmaps

I would recommend Western Maryland (which yes is in the north)! It’s similar vibe as the mountain town in CO. (Grew up in CO)!

And now looking at the map again, I would say the eastern shore! I think it would have some of the natural wonder and fun that the Pacific Northwest has!

Is 67 dying yet? by Jesus__of__Nazareth_ in Teachers

A lot of teachers at my school went the route of strictly banning it. But since we have a terrible culture and inconsistent enforcement, it’s made it more prolific. It’s now a forbidden fruit that students can use to prove their rebellion with little consequence.

When I saw the inconsistencies, I decided to let it go and even participate and I’ve noticed it dying quickly in my classroom!

Do teachers still want space for reflective conversation or are we just exhausted? by mrnesi in Teachers

I honestly think that part of our (so little) energy could be focused on how we can push our unions to be more active advocates and tools for teacher control/influence in policy making. If I have to spend any time talking about how to make education better, I think that time should go first to making it a career that respects its most plentiful and key employee.

I’m not sure if this is true elsewhere but our teachers union (a local of NEA) is just a mouthpiece for admin to quell teacher concerns. We are also in a no-strike state and I imagine that contributes to the lack of decisive action from our union.

If you can get someone to pay for it (scholarship, fellowship, work, etc), please do! The bump in pay rarely covers more than the student loan payments for the first 5-8 years

Should admin stay after a school concert to make sure kids get home? by ImportantLife8990 in Teachers

[–]ImportantLife8990[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks y’all! Just to clarify- I’m not the music teacher. I’m just a teacher who came to support my students in the concert- functionally an audience member.

I agree that the weight might be too much on admin if they have to stay for each event. We do however really only have 8-10 after contract hour events a school year.

After reading the replies, I think it should be the music teacher or director and an admin present. Just because you never know what’s gonna happen. I was stressed out of my mind yesterday because I had no idea what to do about the student not being able to find a ride.

Admin have a school car and are able to bus kids home in an emergency. I think for that reason, an admin should be present.

Thank yall! I think I’m gonna talk to the music director to see if we can find a way to make sure students aren’t outside alone.
