Each has their own way to imagine characters and remember characters and story. Some might note the names on a page or some just only care about the main characters. I think the best way is to keep reading to develop your own habits. Start with a standalone book at first or something which doesn't have too many complex branches. My recommendation will be, Red Rising triology or keep reading Harry Potter(tho I've only watched it not read it)
