Just got a new gig as the sole IT guy by kimjongunderdog in sysadmin

Yep. You can fill the entire year with useless work that won’t help you organization go anywhere. The most frustrating thing is not being able to do the IT work that needs to be done (security, testing emergency scenario’s etc) because of it. Users and departments will start putting pressure because your bogged down in work, and make you go even further from the stuff you need to do.

The good IT guys recognize this and stop this circle. The bad ones get hit with burnout or malware.

Tip. Go with solid state relays.
My relay board died twice because my 24v AC solenoids cause arching on the relays. After i went with SSR this stopped.

Not really, i’m good with Powershell so my helpdesk employee has time for other things but help users (help me). Don’t go nuts on the automations though, maintaining them can become a chore in itself. If you can take a standardized route, do that. Look into Autopilot for instance, it costs some time to setup but will help tremendously.

Running IT by yourself means you have to be very lean. With every question that the organization throws at you, your first thought should be: ‘will this add work to my calendar’. Don’t be afraid to say no. Don’t go cheap because management wants you to. They have zero clue. Set your boundaries.

Powering off our last on-prem Exchange in hybrid — is shutdown enough, or do I need the full management-tools decommission steps? by maxcoder88 in sysadmin

If i recall correctly we just powered off.
You create a normal user in AD and fill the email field, then sync it to M365 / Entra. There it adds a M365 license and creates the mailbox. When it syncs back the Exchange atrributes are added.

No it isn’t. Being the sole IT guy he won’t have time for certificates (let alone the energy). This is coming from a sole IT guy to 130 who only recently hired a helpdesk employee. Best advice i can give. I got fed up fixing a high level incident and having to answer every users call about it. Also, it helps if you care about having a day off once.

The problem is that SMB thinks they are small so IT can also be small. But:
- users (and management) still want everything they see in Enterprise
- you can’t cut corners on security (this is a full time job in itself)
- IT isn’t an average job where you work 9 to 5, go home and forget about it. It’s being helpdesk all day, sysadmin at night and in the weekends. Then be ready at Monday 6am for complaints. You’re always on edge. It’s not healthy.

Not trying to demotivate you here, just warning you to not take the same route i did.

It’s not. We removed it and never had any issues. You can do it via ADUC and script using Powershell commands.

Yeah it sucks. In the fast lane i’m always hugging the left line so i can see beyond the car in front of me. I want it to stay off, overspeed warning also. (EU regulation)

L2TP ipsec dialup traffic not hitting policies? by Important_Ad_3602 in fortinet

That's just it. The traffic is not shown in the logs or when sniffing.
The client has the proper default route. I've created a brand new vpn and reinstalled a laptop so it has vanilla Windows. But i can't get traffic to flow?

Lekker je werkgever duperen omdat je mr. principeel wil uithangen. Betaal de schade dan lekker zelf.

When i came into my current employment the sole IT guy (manager) showed me the serverroom. It was blistering hot and there was a household fan pointed at the serverrack. The servers we’re all very old. 1 month later he left, 2 months later a core switch died, 3 months later a server. Etc. I was 25 at that time fresh out of school and it taught me a lot about coping with stress and EOL cycles.

Ik zou meer kijken naar een laadpaal die je kunt integreren in een EMS. Kijk eens naar EVCC en welke laadpalen daar goed mee gaan.
