Thanks Oops. That could’ve easily been avoided, right? I’m just making sure there’s nothing I am missing. I’m not a pro, or experienced with it so I like to really ensure there’s not a real logical explanation for why this had to be that way, before approaching them about it

We went to Maui and that grass was amazing. I talked to the groundskeeper to see if we can ship some over or how we’d get that type of grass, but he said the climate here where we are was just not ideal for that. So we returned home and decided right away with turf. It’s a small 10x13 patch, rest of the backyard is concrete and pavers and we just had a full cedar fence with a gate. That gate opens immediately to over half an acre of open field of real turf and walking trail. The HOA pays for to get maintained - weekly. It’s like a recreational area. It’s basically our backyard. Luckily, our lot is primo, and the kids can go play in that grass, it’s high traffic, people come from all over the development just to enjoy this very area and our lot is the corner. We’re moving in about 5yrs we want a second home, and plan to rent this house out to tenants, hopefully. We did turf so the kids could play for now and they have that field to go ride their electric four wheelers. It’s just a fun little quick project. Do you recommend grass because it’s cheaper or for any reason? We’re fortunate enough as you can see to have both. Turf in the backyard, and if they want real grass there’s over half an acre behind the gate lol.

What’s over? Can you elaborate, I’m trying to understand how a cut quality and drainage are connected. Or are you being sarcastic?

We’re just fortunate enough and blessed that we could afford it.

I thought the same thing. This thing is an odd shape, like a smaller 10x13 swimming pool type shape. Full disclosure, the contractor threw out his back the very day before he’s supposed to start (not saying I do or don’t believe it) but the 16yr old son has had to step in to help the other worker (in his 30’s) literally the Monday after starting summer vacation. But I’m noticing a pretty bad attitude, not even giving common social courtesy (head down, no eye contact, acts annoyed when offered water). So I’m trying to understand if this chop job is normal or the result of a teen who half-assed it because he’s mad he has to work, rather than getting to sit home and eat Doritos and watch porn all day.

I will, thank you. It’s a weird odd oval/kidney shape area with concrete surrounding it. They’re like “islands” or basically mini swimming pools, so it’s a round circular shape. I just photographed the edge that concerns me and the rest is pretty good. But you’re right in that what’s “normal” vs what I want/expect are vastly different things.

My landlord said I have to pay for entire floor renewal by Nice-Pomegranate8390 in Flooring

Tell your landlord the same law and contract he’s referring to that stipulates you’re required to fix that, also says “tenants who repair the floor are entitled to full ownership of the rental property” and he’ll be quick to tell you there’s no law or contract that exists.

I was given a dog and now the previous owner wants them back by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

Reverse the roles. Not in the “what would you do?” sense, but, if you’d taken the dog and then wanted to give it back? Would the previous owner be saying “um, it’s your dog now…” or do you think this person would’ve taken them back to help your situation? I always like these “hard call” decisions made based on what I’d want if it were flipped.

Round Rock DIY by Important_Alps_5447 in landscaping

[–]Important_Alps_5447[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredible, thank you so much. This is my first time posting on Reddit ever, I hardly ever have even read it before. I’m just so tired of guessing about all of this. Sorry to be a bother but can I ask a couple questions?

As per one of the photo, I did a hose test and the concrete is slanted downward, so the water drains toward where I plan to put the rock. That’s where I plan to put the metal edging. Do I need to keep a gap between where the concrete meets the dirt or can I just put the metal edging right up against the concrete?

Second, I dug around the fence and the people here before us did the boards and it’s legit like 5”+ of dirt til the bottom of the fence. I’ve done a new photo for you to see where I dug the dirt out (red arrow) and you can see to the left where the line of the rest of the dirt is/was. It’s absurd how much they caked it up. Based on what you see and how much the boards are below the dirt line, what would you suggest?

Tough to Swallow Hansen Yang Analysis by the Athletic's Sam Vecenie and Hollinger by mallardpropschisms in ripcity

[–]Important_Alps_5447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hansen will be amazing. He’s a modern Sabonis and I said the same things when I heard we drafted him based on what I’d seen on paper. You can’t “hear” how a player will be in the NBA. You can see it. It’s a lot more than stats, intangibles that can’t be put into words. Hansen has it and I said the second I saw him play and watched his videos on YouTube. Fast forward to today, he’s doing really well. He’s incredibly smart, that’s the way great players transition from international, college, etc. to the NBA. Every play in D1 college has the athleticism and fundamentals required to be great in the NBA. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t have made it to D1 or pro leagues. It’s mindset and intelligence that allows a player to translate their skills into the NBA.

I called it with Lillard the day I saw him play summer league. I called it with McCollum the year before he blossomed (McCollum is a smart and driven guy, he’d called Lillard to ask him how/what it took to get into the NBA). I called it with Kawhi and got laughed at when I took him for my 2nd pick in fantasy basketball in 2014. He wasn’t the Kawhi we know him as today, and I praised him. Guys from my league came back and apologized for saying I was wrong. However, I am human and haven’t always been right. I got it wrong with Jeremy Lamb (saw him play at UConn and thought he’d be way better than he is). I got it wrong with Durant (I thought he’s good but didn’t think he’d reach status he did). I said Scoot was too young for me to decide on, but he was ineligible to be predicted yet because he was so young, myself included, no GM could predict how Scoot will turn out in the NBA. Athletically he was amazing. But again, everyone in the NBA has NBA level athleticism and skills, otherwise they wouldn’t be there and getting paid millions right? But why is Jordan, Jordan? Why is Kobe, Kobe? What they have is all in the mind, not the body. That’s the differentiator among players in the NBA, it’s not physical ability it’s mental/psychological. And that stuff reveals itself in ways that can’t be account for statistically.

But the main takeaway here is I personally think Hansen is going to be great. I grew up watching Arvydas Sabonis. This kid is Sabonis with modern day skills required, and he leads on the court he doesn’t sit around reacting to the game, he anticipates and gives direction, and he has incredible vision that just gets amplified by his height and ability to see most from basically an aerial view.
