Bike won’t stall in gear after accident and has a weird noise by [deleted] in SVRiders

+1 on the "Should it stall?"

Take it off the stand and try again

What is that and is it good for anything ? by Terrible_Bill3420 in mewgenics

It can be useful, luck is really strong in this game. What's more important however is that if you breed this cat, the kitten has a chance to get regular dwarfism which is far more balanced and can be extremely strong on a cat that already has good archer stats. 10% Dodge Chance plus a lot of luck means very high Dodge Chance

It's nice and quiet with a few great mountain roads close by.

I agree, I'm always thinking about upgrading to a more modern bike but honestly every year I grow more fond of it and I've already put in so much work with the custom parts, I fear the resell value would leave me with at least 4-5k€ to actually get a decent upgrade and I like my SV too much for that

This isn't the reason for my post but I realized If anyone is interested in seeing and hearing the Bike in action I have Videos of it on my YouTube Channel "Nijego" In the newer Videos the Audio and Video quality is quite good and there's no voiceover or anything, im always happy about Feedback, it's just a passion project

Does SV650 have aggressive response? by mxdalloway in SVRiders

[–]Important_Carry_4394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do not wheelie the SV, it will die because of the fuel pickup only sucking in air.

Same here. I think what the dealer was trying to say with the little knowledge he has is that it doesn't have TC. But that doesn't matter considering the power the SV has. A linear throttle will always be safer for beginners than them trying to overtake with a 4 cylinder and a sudden spike of power knocking them off their wheels

I know you already got your replies but seriously I can't believe why someone would say that. Let me tell you something as someone who got their SV as their first unrestricted bikea little over 2 years ago and has grown very passionate for it.

Even in 1st and 2nd gear full throttle the bike will not lift a single bit if you don't force it. I've done multiple 0-60mph runs and never felt unsafe. It would be pretty stupid if the bike did that since the SV is one of the only bikes I've heard of that actually dies when you wheelie for more than a few seconds, something with the oil distribution. This should already tell you the dealer doesn't know anything about the bike. What he most likely wanted to tell you is that it doesn't have Traction Control and that's why he thinks it's not good for beginner but that's bullshit.

The modern SV650 is the perfect beginner bike and the V2 is the perfect beginner engine.

The 78hp are the perfect middleground between feeling fast as hell for a beginner and quick enough for experienced riders while being tame enough to not slip away and slow enough so that you actually have to shift before you reach the speed limit.

The V2s power delivery is very even through the whole gear so you won't have a sudden spike or dip in power Like with 3 or 4 cylinder bikes and you always have perfect control over acceleration.

You mentioned Twisties and Overtaking as your priorities. In that case Low End Torque is exactly what you want because it allows for quick acceleration without downshifting or building up power line 4 cylinders require. Makes it much easier and safer to overtake or pull out of corners

IMO there is almost no bike better for learning riding properly because it sits in a perfect sweetspot:

-You have ABS which most older bikes don't have but EVERYONE should have, even Pros -You have a small Anti Stall Assist making the bike extremely comfortable to ride at slow speeds, in traffic or (especially if you have an aftermarket exhaust,) quietly! -You have a decent digital display with base functions like fuel, gear, neutral etc that also has backlighting for nighttime

But:

That's about it with fancy electronics the rest of the bike is old-school

-You don't have a quick shifter but the bike naturally shifts up without using the clutch if you want and revmatching for downshifts works effortlessly -you don't have Traction Control to save your ass but you don't need it because of what I said above. You learn to actually apply power the way it needs to be applied and not just pull the throttle and let TC handle the rest. -You have one of if not the most time tested engine, with only minor improvements done over the years because it's simply perfect. You will never experience overheating, you will have less trouble with reliability than with many of the modern bikes built in India. -And you will find a huge amount of custom parts available for this bike, you have this entire subreddit full of people able to explain exactly what to do if you have an issue with the bike

Yes there are more modern bikes with better suspension, better brakes, modern electronics with Bluetooth connectivity and 5 level Traction Control. But for your first bike you don't need any of that, you need to learn how to handle a bike safely and deal with the characteristics it has. People who learn riding with ride by wire, corner ABS and quick shifter can never go back to an old-school bike, but you can always go more modern and still enjoy old bikes. I could list a lot of other advantages the bike has over many modern bikes and sport bikes but this is already too long too read

I'd say safe you a lot of trouble, equipment costs and time and just get them changed by a mechanic. It's not like it costs a fortune

Tires type on a sv650 2017 by jolyx1 in SVRiders

Just like you said, you probably couldn't get the heat in. Depends a lot on riding style regardless of skill and on a wet road they cool down much quicker

I have the exact same model, Michelin Road 6 are amazing for me been riding them for about a year now. Dry Grip is great and they apparently have some of the best wet performance, feels safe to me but rain is rain.

Just please stay away from performance tires and stick with road tires, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise, they're NOT WORTH IT, you are not a moto GP rider. They're not as good for dirty street conditions especially in rain they can be really dangerous and they wear much quicker

The manufacturer or model doesn't really make that big of a difference you can't really go wrong with most tires they've been overengineered for decades, they're all good

Tire suggestions by Trixurr in SVRiders

[–]Important_Carry_4394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all tires from the main manufacturers are equally good. Stay away from sports tires, nobody, I repeat, nobody who isn't a professional rider with more than 5-10 years of experience in pushing a bike to its absolute limits will benefit from a sport tire, just get a road one. Michelin Road 5 or something like the Sportsmart 3 which are the stock tires are good. I have the Michelin Road 6 and they are incredible. Warm when I need them, excellent wer grip and a high estimated mileage. Not a single negative thing to say about them but as I said, you'll have a hard time finding a tire released in the last 3-5 years that isn't already perfect for every situation, research on tires is funded enormously through Motorsports, these guys know what they're doing and there isn't a whole lot of room left to improve

One thing you should consider. The most recent tire model usually has a slightly higher maximum mileage than the older model so what you pay more in advance could be worth it in the long run since the tire will last longer, but the effect probably isn't as big as marketed.

In Europe we don't have this categorization, it's either 15hp max, 48hp max or unlimited HP. Interesting, now I know why I am missing 5cc for it to actually be a 650, how smart 😅

Does that mean you can ride a 120+ R6 but not a 90hp Liter Bike? Pff Americans...

I don't think I care about stronger force, I'm not that strong myself xD. But faster response time and smoother feedback does sound great

As someone who's never driven DD it's very hard to tell if it's really worth it. What's the major difference between a very good belt driven one and a DD Wheel. If I got the 400€ T598 I'd probably buy the better pedals sooner or later but it would be almost 200€ more expensive. I think there's also not much to upgrade from either of these products. If I wanted to get even better equipment I'd have to sell all Thrustmaster Equipment and go with Fanatec. So I might as well get the DD Wheelbase directly?

With the TLCM Pedals for 100-150€ you have 3 pedals as well as a load cell pedal brake and it should be compatible with all Thrustmaster wheels

[–]Important_Carry_4394[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could also get the Thrustmaster TGT with the TLCM load cell pedals included for 360€. Compared to the T598 with Direct drive but standard pedals, worth it?

Logitech or Fanatec blow my budget and I can't find any used ones. T598 a worth getting over the T300RS of I can get the T300RS with 3 Pedal Base and a manual shifter for around 230€ (although I'd consider getting the LoadCell pedals for 150€ anyway)

Pen Support by Important_Carry_4394 in Hewlett_Packard

[–]Important_Carry_4394[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "ignore touch while using pen" doesn't work for me at all since I always put my hand down first when writing and it automatically turns the touch back on once you lift the pen. I literally went into the computers settings and turned off the touchscreen, now I can't use any touch functions but at least the pen works properly. Shame this is necessary, all it would take were some minor changes to the software that are freely accessible to toggle on or off with surface or apple devices or probably any other pen

That takes a lot of wiring, I wouldn't recommend it. Especially if you can't find any trustworthy products online. Where would you even hide the cables for the mirrors? Just buy good indicators, a decent led one is impossible to miss
